Man this new cut shot to Num 1 in single sales today and once again (this video is gonna blow this cut through the roof) Macklemore has a great song.  Macklemore continues to grow HipHop into HipPOP.  This cut is gonna get real love from pop and churban dj’s…..   The online sales blew this score up to NUM 1(“I got the one for you follow me….” love that line)

*Big Sean ft Kanye West “One Man Can Change The World” 65.0

This cut blew up through the online a little while ago so why it didn’t go to the top ten I’ll never know (come on its Big Sean & Kanye West…).  This is a great cut and deserves to be heard (this cut is gone if it becomes an Apple commercial or some great ad sponsor it #ComeOnNewYorkMedia #Lsmh).  Great intro and just all around great song… (”Hope you get the pretty girl that’s pretty at everything….”)

*Omarion “I’m Up” 61.9

Just like “Post to Be” this one’s bubbling slowly, but when it catches it’ll catch for real (dj’s are gonna like this cut).  It’s got great mix energy and it’s in a great BPM area (area with a lot of hits right now).  Omarion and Chris Brown are really fighting for this HipHop/HipPop groove area (if it ain't broke don’t fix it #ItWorks)… (You know who to call when your man’s too involved, to small…#LsmhDamn.)

On this mix we put a mix together to coincide with the NWA movie “Straight Outta Compton”.   So one of my longtime friends (A.KA.BuddagBlessOne) put a beat together with the artist IShine, “MFDaPolice”.  I decided to use it in this mix and the mix went where I never thought it would go (they never do #lsmh).  So we did an EchoMixxx so that you can be reintroduced to NRG (to those who have been in Atlanta for awhile this group will be familiar).  Then I have really been feeling this Big Sean “One Man Can Change The World” (I love this cut.  It really grows on you. #VeryInspirational).  Then we mixed in a little Isley Brothers “Fight The Power” (I know where did that come from #lsmh).  I wound it up with NWA”s “F*ck DaPolice” (to see how old and new blend, also so added a KRS quid blend).

The Story

Each week on our GetAtMe HotNewHits we handicap new music releases.  Why?  Because I love hit songs….

What's Up

So it’s important for us to make sure others understand our motivation.  What’s our motivation?  Pick hit songs that are market worthy and make sure the consumers (who at the end of the day is the most important part of this music thing…) can make the best choice with the best info…

Why it matters

Because we have become an industry that no longer cares about the music or the fans.  We now put more focus on day to day industry foolishness and power struggles in the industry as opposed to just providing fans with music that makes a difference in their lives (that’s why people buy music.  Not because you kept yelling “BUY ME NOW” over and over with online marketers.  People buy music because the music they like provides some special moments in their lives (sorry beatmakers, you’re not the end all and be all to society.  I know your PR department put that in your head but it’s not true…).

The Bottomline

So now each week we’re gonna let you know how we did in our pick department and the progress or failures of our choices (and no I don’t know the artist or their people #Really.  I can’t believe that I have to even address that stupidity “Do you know these folks?  No I don’t nor do I care if I do.  I pick songs.  The people in my life are enough for me to deal with on the day to day (I aint got an inch of groupie in me #FRFR).  The people I meet and engage with are people That I like and want to f*ck with.  Period.  Too many people are too concerned with networks that don’t work.  Here’s a novel ideas, do the work.

And that’s what we do.  For the fans and the Dj’s who love and appreciate the music.

Man when I decided to do this new series I had forgot I wanted to do mixes like this. By doing the ECHOMIXXX I give you the full experience of how a new song works in a mix with a variety of new hit music. I am blessed that a new artist Al Chauncy put me on to his new cut. Here’s what’s on the mix:

Al Chauncy ft Tori Alamaze “GET U HOT” (138BPMS)

Man I’m really feeling this cut by Al Chauncy (new artist from Atlanta). This music was done by Chris Rogers (#Traxxx an Atl BeatSmith) and Chris always does fire tracks #FRFR. Chris has a very thematic (is that even a word, well it’s my word #lsmh…) way of doing tracks. All of his tracks sound like they’re right out of a movie sound track. Al Chauncy is a real RNB artist with a real RNB feel. Tori Alamaze has an amazing voice and on this track she puts her stamp on this #SexyAndInTheMood track….

Drake “HOTLINE BLING”

This new cut by Drake is a smoker (especially after putting out “BACK TO BACK” that fire street track). Drake goes back to making “DeepDiaryMusic #ForTheChicks). “Hotline Bling” is strong cut #DjAlert.

Marvin Gaye “WHATS GOING ON” (this is an #OhSoSexxxyMixxx)

Just listen to this Marvin remix (that’s all Imma say #lsmh). Now this is what a remix is supposed to do #FRFR #DjAlert

Liane V ft Twayne “DOIN TO MUCH” (Liane is the cover model #CertifiedBabe)

Finding this cut is what Djing is all about for me #ILoveToFindTheNewHitSong . Man I’m crazy about this cut (man I can’t tell how much I love finding these new artist that have great new songs #ItsAPassion. This new cut by Liane V with TWayne (of Nasty Freestyle fame) is a real strong groove/slow cut #DjAlert. This is a real radio cut and middays in urban radio should love this cut.

Story

Urban radio’s playlist seems to be cluttered by songs that are not selling and noone knows the reason (or no one wants to start the discussion….)

WHATS UP?

Radio it seems no longer really factors in whether songs are selling or not.   Many of today’s radio music consultants it seems are more worried about currying favor with the labels as opposed to really figuring  out what the stations listeners find  entertaining and are buying (#TheUltimteSupport).  Even though most of the consultants know better, many of them are so out of  it from the music aspect that in many ways, if a song is not a song of common interest to a labels and consultant’s priority well, let’s just say it gets overlooked.

Why does it matter?

Well in this time of budget cuts in urban radio, many times these cuts are based on the perception that urban radio stations are leaking bucket of finance.  In some situations there are so many side deals going on that in the long run, some of these deals affect many of the stations bottom-line.  Well if the music on your station is not selling then it’s probably safe to say that your ad traffic may not be an effective tool for your clients (because you’re not playing what they’re buying and that affects your audience retention.

What’s the bottomline?

With urban radio battling for ad dollars it is imperative that urban radio makes sure that they are always delivering the best product that delivers the most impact for their paying customers.  If you’re not playing the music that the fans are buying, well maybe urban radio is in their own little world and won’t adjust until the ad gravy train runs out (it always runs out…)

That’s why we are always so sales conscience at GetAtMe.  We’re aware that there are those that just want attention hoping that the attention creates money opportunities.  Well you know what creates the best money opportunity?  A real hit record that’s selling (ask @iheartmemphis “HitTheQuan” over 5000 downloads a day #NoRadioAirplay #NowThatsGettingIt).  When media folks realize you’re selling for real, well that’s what makes them look your way.

*At 69.8 is Young Thug’s “POWER” (B grade) another great club cut for Thug (would be smash when we see iTunes sales…)

The Story

Yesterday Ebro (the morning man for Hot97FMNY) dropped some real jewels on up and coming artist Stro….

What Happened

Stro eluded that New York is the only city (where he got that idea I’ll never know...) that you have to get hot in the streets to get radio support (as he was sitting right there on the morning show getting love).  Ebro went in and really gave this cat some real business jewels.  It’s a must see and must hear interview for up and coming music artist…..  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TcrfAa19KOI

Why it matters

Too many new artists and their industry crew have a real misconception about the relationship that radio has with music and hiphop.  Radio’s job is to sell attention #FRFR.  They are there to inform the community (if they choose to) but radio’s real function is the make its shareholders and owner’s bread. #NoBreadNoPaycheck) Show these folks how the bread) is to be made (with the attention they’re blessing you with) and the support will show up.  Do the work in the streets to attract mixtapes/ online to gain club interest and then radio will getatyou....

Man I’ve never met an artist or industry person that doesn’t feel like they have the next big thing (that’s how they’re supposed to feel) but the reality is THE FANS, not industry folks or radio determines what’s hot or not (no matter how some industry folks feel… $ThatsInTheirMind).  Fans know what they like and want and the worst mistake anyone can do is to try to dictate their fans appetite (it’s a bad decision...).  So when you go you to radio make sure “You don’t have a brick (song that don’t sell or move the crowd) and make sure you have done the work in developing your own fanbase.  Radio’s supposed to charge you for theirs.  That’s the business they are in.  RENT TO OWN FAME #FRFR

Man Ebro dropped so many jewels in this vid, well we can’t count them all.  Ebro gave the young rapper Stro a real education on the morning show about rapper, artist and the work that’s required to get radio.  Get hot in the streets and the clubs and then come holla at him.  Too many artists these days for some reason feel that they are entitled to radio support and industry promotions.  For real, you gotta get some legs running before you can get the sweat treatment.

What’s real although in these days and times with online sales and all, most artist who have serious followings and support can generate a real income on itunes sales without the labels or radio (@iheartmemphis “HitTheQuan” with over 4000 sales a day currently) Ebro’s right, you need radio to make you a superstar (it’s expensive although) but being a superstar doesn’t always fruit riches.  You have to choose your strategy that works for you.

Are licensing people unconsciously hurting the people they’re trying to help?  Yeah it’s beginning to seem that way.  Music licensing people are individuals who are like mechanics who have never worked on a car but are trying to write the standard operating procedure on a” I think this works” mentality.  Employees and employers have always seen things differently. An employee wants to be paid without risk and an employer wants to be paid a lot to take all the risk (hence my point).
Music licensing people have all these ideas about music piracy but have (usually) never risked a dime of their own money in the music business, by them not ever putting up any money up it create a blind spot in the licensing people’s process.  They have no idea how the label owners think.  What’s worse they could care less how the music consumer feels about today’s music industry excecs and they’re consumer acquisition  and retention process (#WhyShouldWeMakeMoneyWhenWeCanStealIt) and without their knowledge the licensing groups have become a “shade”(a distraction tool in a con) tool in today’s music  environment.
Come on think about it. What does a major label actually make other than manufactured fame?   The label’s lawyers want to give artist these 360 deals and the only thing they actually do is upload a few mp3s and then begin the process of skimming the budget money from an artist’s project.  It’s almost like they create these financial ratholes to skim (or launder) money from these artist’s dreams.  Then send the artist the tax bill #SMH.
Think about it.  If they’re not manufacturing cds or a hard product, then why are they fucking up so much money on online marketing, radio play, so called tour support (we’re now paying promoters for the acts to show up and be on the show #really)?  These areas are little potholes of gross financial mismanagement or worse, just plain theft.  We realize that the best con men need shade (the distraction) to pull a lift (the actual theft from a mark, the artist.  Just so you’ll know the whole process, the fans, fame and radio are the ropes (draw ins) in these schemes.  So how did lawyers and licensing groups become the shade in this elaborate game of music 3 card mollie (and worse did they know).  Really these guys just wanted to be down or sometimes they were also thieves in these music business scam crews #JustTheTruth. So when these groups get all self righteous about music piracy, they sort of sound like the minister whose laundering money for the area drug boy but tells his flock don’t get high, it’s bad #Lsmh.
We chase away fans with youtube takedowns of fan videos (so you’re telling the fan, don’t make mashups but hey will you spend with me?  You’re mix jocks “don’t make mixes, we think it’s bootlegging, oh buy the way can you download and support our artist #FuckNoICant.. So this chasm between the fans and the labels has developed some pretty severe cracks in the trust between the fans and label.  We gotta do better.

Man when I decided to do this new series I had forgot I wanted to do mixes like this.  By doing the ECHOMIXXX I give you the full experience of how a new song works in a mix with a variety of new hit music.  I am blessed that a new artist Al Chauncy put me on to his new cut.  Here’s what’s on the mix:

Al Chauncy ft Tori Alamaze “GET U HOT” (138BPMS)

Man I’m really feeling this cut by Al Chauncy (new artist from Atlanta).  This music was done by Chris Rogers (#Traxxx an Atl BeatSmith) and Chris always does fire tracks #FRFR.  Chris has a very thematic (is that even a word, well it’s my word #lsmh…) way of doing tracks.  All of his tracks sound like they’re right out of a movie sound track.  Al Chauncy is a real RNB artist with a real RNB feel.  Tori Alamaze has an amazing voice and on this track she puts her stamp on this #SexyAndInTheMood track….

Drake “HOTLINE BLING”

This new cut by Drake is a smoker (especially after putting out “BACK TO BACK” that fire street track).  Drake goes back to making “DeepDiaryMusic #ForTheChicks).  “Hotline Bling” is strong cut #DjAlert.

Marvin Gaye “WHATS GOING ON” (this is an #OhSoSexxxyMixxx)

Just listen to this Marvin remix (that’s all Imma say #lsmh).  Now this is what a remix is supposed to do #FRFR #DjAlert

Liane V ft Twayne “DOIN TO MUCH” (Liane is the cover model #CertifiedBabe)

Finding this cut is what Djing is all about for me #ILoveToFindTheNewHitSong .  Man I’m crazy about this cut (man I can’t tell how much I love finding  these new artist that have great new songs #ItsAPassion.  This new cut by Liane V with TWayne (of Nasty Freestyle fame) is a real strong groove/slow cut #DjAlert.  This is a real radio cut and middays in urban radio should love this cut.

When this topic was first brought to me I was a little iffy (yall know I gotta see the end game in a topic) but Talib was right about we need to discuss this subject because it seems to be a lot of confusion.

You have to be promoted before you can even locate a real sales professional.   Trust me if a sales professional can place you and get paid, they're gonna do it.  The promoter only starts the conversation, the salesman engages in the transaction point and provides (for someone) their solution.  Is your product a real industry solution?  We’ll discuss that today on blogtalkradio/com/getatmenow.  Call (347) 826-7743

Allright going into the end of the 3rd Qtr and getting ready for the 4th qtr sales push, Fetty Wap still controls the top of the GetAtMe TopTen.  The reason our chart reflects somewhat different is that sales counts for 25% of our chart position, so if you’re not selling then all the hype will make you fall short.  We track radio mixtape action, club action and radio to compile our chart.  So you gotta be selling to make a dent on our chart.  Here’s this week’s chart:

*At num 1 Fetty Wap's “”MY WAY” stays on top (3 charts in a row….) and at num 2 is Meek Mills “ALL EYES ON YOU” (Nicki and Meek have a smash in spite of the Meek/Drake BeefBowl…)

* At num 3 is Rich Homie Quan’s “FLEX” (we told yall this was gonna be a huge cut….) and at num 4 is Jeremih's “PLANES” (J Cole brought this one home…..

* At num 5 is TheWeekNd's “THE HILLS” (this one’s been huge since day one in sales…) and at num 6 is Jidenna’s “CLASSIC MAN” (man was this one a creeper….)

* At num 7 is Rihanna's “BBHMM” (I think this one has even surprised Rihanna’s people.  It just keeps right on tickin….) and at num 8 is KCamp’s
COMFORTABLE” (told yall this was the summer jam….)

* At num 9 is TWayne's “NASTY FREESTYLE” (I think this was the 2nd and 3rd qtr biggest surprise…) and at num 10 this chart is Rae Sremmurd “THIS COULD BE US”.

We really believe that real number create real fans.  Remember here at GetAtMe. We love the hit song….
