GetAtMe:InDaMixxx-Stalley Ft. Scarface -Swangin (Official Music Video) (Directed by Boomtown)

Check out the official video for Stalley's new single "Swangin" featuring Scarface and produced by the Block Beataz. Buy "Swangin" on ITunes NOW! bit.ly/Stal...

This right here is that real southwest mix (the only thing missing on this song is Eightball & MJG #LSMH).  Stalley seems to be the new project by Maybach music.  This cut is sort of radio friendly (in the south).  This cut lends to being a remix heaven which can either be heaven or hell for Stalley.  I mean J Cole, Kendrick Lamar or even T.I. would have brought this song to life.  Scarface is cool because he’s a legit vet but these kids might not really know his sound or really care about his legacy.  The song is cool and evidently some in Urban radio feel like that also.  At the end of the day, the fans will decide.  Here’s the stats:

THE TRACK- 4($$$$) I like this track.  It was real full and it reminded me of a good Eightball track

THE PERFORMANCE- 4($$$$) Stalley brought it home on this cut.  As I said it was good to hear Scarface

MUSCLE- 2($$) right now this might be a little mature for the streets but I’m sure it will get some momentum

JUICE- 2($$) radio has already showed interest so we’ll see

TIMING- 2($$) great summertime record and riding cut

VIDEO- 3($$$) the video was cool.  It was nice to see a video with the car parade again

LYRICS- 3($$$)

THE SONG- 3($$$) this song will have to make it’s way in the market.  We’ll see.

TOTAL: 25pts out of 40 (B- grade)

GetAtMe- Andre 3000 "was I working to hard..." | GetAtMe | Scoop.it

Andre 3000 is confused, when did hiphop become a sitcom (uuum Mr Van WinKle you can come out of the cave now…).  Andre bro hiphop’s been that way for a moment, but wait is it that there are writers or has hiphop evolved as an entertainment medium?

There have always had crews of writers (Andre knows this because he came from the Dudgeon Family…), what really seems to be the issue is not as much about the writing but HipHop “is not what I wanted it to be anymore…” (That’s what happens why you allow other to be the funding principle of your so called culture communications tool, I mean if you don’t invest you don’t control).  Look when you want control, you gotta be the bread, those are the rules (you know “he who has the gold make’s the rules…).

For many years I’ve heard complaints as to where hiphop is going but I never hear anyone saying I’m going to step up as a primary lender (unless you’re the corner trap king and his investment in Jeezy wanna be’s seems to be doing just fine…).  Entertainment usually is a reflection of the lenders, why, because it’s their money and they will call the shots.  I don’t know why that so hard for some to come to terms with that reality.

So if you wanna called the shots and define hiphop as how you want it to be, (with only rappers who write their own material) well you have to start a label that just has that as its code (you probably won’t make a lot of money and then some folks will still complain about its not fair…)

Andre is a very gracious and pleasant cat and he went out of his way to not point fingers buy the real of it is, artist who became successful hiphop stars financially (major point) didn’t reinvest their cash in hiphop, why, because they felt it was better to use OPM (other people’s money) and when you use other folks money they call the shots.

Of course when your spending in the hundreds of thousands in marketing an artist, eventually your gonna start to move the odds in your favor.  What the hiphop traditionalist don’t realize is that the old RNB guard said the same thing about them (“This rap stuff will never last…”).  Not only did rap last but it outlasted the traditionalist RNB artist, why, a new generation with new taste and ideas.

To the lenders (who are trying to make money off the music) does it really matter to them that someone is writing the songs? No.  Does it really matter to the spending customers?  Why it doesn’t matter to the money folks is because they want a hit and that it and you know what, that really not bad of an idea (minimize my risk in a risky investment hmmm ground breaking).  Artist in their endeavor to survive develop a sort of entitled type of mentality about where sponsors or what sponsors should pay attention to in hiphop.  It’s not a game, its business.

Like I said Andre’s a great guy (for real one of the best guys I’ve met in this business…) but no Andre you weren’t working to hard because you were defining your footprint in this business we call hiphop.  Maybe these new artists have a different definition in mind for their footprint and really, ain’t that’s what hiphop is supposed to be about?  Redefining a musical style to define your generation musical style and taste?

Remember “There’s nothing wrong with the record business that a good record can’t cure…”

GetAtMe ItsInTheLyrics- DeLaSoul ft Usher 'GREYHOUND' "Now this is what hiphop is all about..." #ItsAboutTheMusic | GetAtMe | Scoop.it

De La Soul:]
Fresh from a bible belt town
That's what she's givin' up
Not really livin', just flesh comin' off a greyhound
Right at a blink of an eye he provides her with charm
Hides that he is a shark
Suggests a few apartments, never hints to the home
That's what he wanna do
She just wanna new zip code for an old dream
Lost in an appetite now the big apple might
Find her habit of a queen
Feel the negro that's filled with an equal match road
Destination unknown
She's Little Bow Peep
And her and her whole sheep gonna have their wool unsewn
Now the wolf give a push
Now watch her jump in with two feet
Blue heat don't know how to swim through the limbs
Everyone huggin' her, tuggin' her
Ride on the merry-go-round of four drinks and two white lines
Go fast with the fast life so she needs more
One fun fix, now a daily chore
Provide the score, written and produced so perverse
He's a pro well versed
Told her that the purse that she want
With the shoes that she love and the rent that she need paid
Can be earned with speed in a day
Escort on the high class side
Champagne glass rides
White snow waterfalls, oh how time flies
When you're flyin', crash and burn
She learned that her soul was dyin'
That's worth savin'
She's cravin' that bible belt town
So she crawls back on the Greyhound

[Usher:]
Next stop, NYC
Take your seats please
I know exactly where you're goin', I can see it on your face
I know how to get there
And I give you my word that I get you there safe
I don't need to check your baggage
I don't need to know your name
All I need to know is
By the time you arrive, you'll forever be changed

[De La Soul:]
Fresh new Gucci belt, bound
Fast to the city scape
Dash to deliver fate
Stashed in this duffel bag, proud
It's no scaredy cat
Life was always spared in thy name
That the gamblers fold
No chips if the scramble got cold
But them warm cushions and them soft bus seats
Push that second thought along
Beneath the roof of a Super 8, he sleeps till it's night time
Then connects in the streets like a pipe line
In dark shades he supplies dark brigades
Of lost souls with his chemical morsels
He's no lab tech
He was born into a legacy stretched from Aztecs and beyond
Assets he was drawn to
Had him spreadin' the wool over his mother's eye
He's the black sheep
His pops career driven, he's the backseat
The man on the wheel that cruises on sunrise
That the man brought eyes to his pay per view
Kind of paper make a fool shoot his statement through
And take the label too
Till he's can't [?]
Till a pancake pocket change the landscape
Take a short visit home in the town
It's time to re-up, it's back on the Greyhound

[Usher:]
Next stop, NYC
Take your seats please
I know exactly where you're goin', I can see it on your face
I know how to get there
And I give you my word that I get you there safe
I don't need to check your baggage
I don't need to know your name
All I need to know is
By the time you arrive, you'll forever be changed

By the time you arrive, you'll forever be changed
By the time you arrive, you'll forever be changed
Forever be changed, forever be changed
So watch where you're goin'
And this food you're chosin'
I don't need to check your baggage
I don't need to know your name
All I need to know is
By the time you arrive you'll forever be changed
Forever be changed, be changed
You'll forever be changed

GetAtMe3PcSnack Extended Blend ft De la Soul, Usher, Dj Neek, SbDaG, BeatMakanixxx, Ghetto Mafia & UGK .. #NowThatsAMixxx | GetAtMe | Scoop.it

Man I really enjoyed this mix.  Why?  Because this was a mix that was just done for me to enjoy the mix, period.  Come on who would think that a day would come that Usher and De la Soul would do a song together (a great one at that…).  So just so you’ll know, this mix was just for me to you.

On these GetAtMe 3PcSnack Extended Blends, we play the whole songs so that you can hear the total cuts.  We thought it was really necessary for you to hear the whole De La Soul ft Usher ‘GREYHOUND’.  Here’s the mix

  • De La Soul ft Usher ‘GREYHOUND’- We started out with this new De la Soul ft Usher ‘GREYHOUND’ (man I love this cut…). This cut is a real song and really, this cut is what hip-hop is all about.  The way that De La Soul told the story (in true griot fashion) and how Usher made a very listenable performance as the vocal back drop turned this song into a quick hiphop audio movie… #NowThatsWhatsRealHipHop “Next stop NYC take your seats please…”  They have a lyric in this cut saying “by the time you arrive you’ll forever be changed…” (and anyone who has ever made that journey on a Greyhound bus knows that feeling… #FRFR).  This is a great song and this is what I feel is real HipHop… #AMixtapeMust
  • Dj Neek ft SBDaG ‘HEAD HELD HIGH’ (DjSingleMix)- Now on this cut Dj Neek spotlights the battle rapper SBDaG (from the Mobile Ala area).  Anyone who has caught SBDaG on youtube in one of his battles realizes how clever and entertaining this dude is.  We’ll he brings that same clever rhyme style to his music and it really comes through on “HEAD HELD HIGH’.  Dj Neek (an air personality on Columbia’s Hot 103.9/93.9) has decided to do Dj Singles to spotlight artist that she’s feeling their music (  #NowThatsAGreatIdea ) and SBDaG is her debut project.  Can’t wait to hear more.  This cut is hot and I mean it’s really a very inspirational cut.  The BeatMakanixxx put a driving groove to drive the cut, so with the Mix and SBDaG’s performance, we have a great DjSingleMix… #GetItInTheMix
  • BeatMakanixxx Minimix ft Ghetto Mafia STRAIGHT FROM DECATUR (a southern hiphop classic) and UGK “PLAYERS ANTHEM’ (another classic)- What can I say but these are 2 classic hiphop joints (these cuts are real stripclub djs must have. These are 2 cuts that no matter where you are when you put them on, the room’s gonna goes “ooh shitttt…).   We put this one on as a special lil joint #4DaDjNU (hope you enjoy it… #LSMH).  It’s amazing that all these years that these cuts still ride just as strong (ForReal ForReal)… #MustHaveHipHopClassics

GetAtMe- MrColliPark "Sampling is the essence of hiphop.  Just be creative..."  #ItsAboutTheMusic | GetAtMe | Scoop.it

“Sampling, that’s the essences of hiphop…”  These are very true words from Mr Collipark.  Mr Collipark is the producer who produced The Yin Yang Twins, Soldier Boy, and (to my surprise…) V.I.C. 'WOBBLE’.  It’s safe to say he’s done a track or two.

Mr Collipark come’s from a stable of bass music game changing producers that came from Atlanta.  Mike Fresh (2 LiveCrew & The PoisonClan). Dj Bonay, Kizzie Rock & Dj Poncho (The AtownPlayas) and many others that changed the game of how and why people hit the dance floor “When that bass dropped…”  And Mr Collipark is right, “sampling is the essence of hiphop (on many levels…).

HipHop takes pieces of other musical genres and styles to create a trending sound that usually defines a new generation of hiphop music fans.  Whatever the sound, technology and trends are at the time, HipHop merges these ingredients to create the theme music for a generation and the culture of the time.  That’s what Hiphop is really about…

This new dj single mix with Dj Neek ft SBDaG HEAD HELD HIGH is the debut single mix from Dj NeeK.  Dj Neek (an air personality on Hot 103.9/93.9 in Columbia SC) has decided to begin spotlighting cuts that she's feeling with dj single mixes (what's a dj single mix, aint that a remix?).  Dj single mixes are mixes done by dj's of song that they decide to put their special flair on the cut.  "Sometimes when you hear a break that rocks a cut, you just leave it in and its at times will give a cut a whole new life" said Dj NeeK

"A remix is more of a producer situation, a dj mix is like a small minimix that it's breaks are so strong that it gives a track it's own new identity, That's the difference" said Dj Neek.

GetAtMeMiniMixxx Ft DjNeek/LukeNasty OTW (DjSingleMix) & Dreezy Close To You ... #NowThatsAMixxxx | GetAtMe | Scoop.it

Okay on this GetatMeMiniMixxx we had to spotlight this new DjNeek/LukeNasty ‘OTW’ ( again Dj Luke Nasty delivers a winner…).  Using the Toni Toni Toni sample (Whatever you want…), Dj Luke Nasty delivers on another hot cut.  Dj Neek hurried up and got the DjSingleMix (and dj’s she gave you enough bars on the front for the mix…).  This cut ‘OTW’ really grows on you after you hear it a few times.  Once again DjNeek picks the hits.

I can’t say enough about this new Dreezy ‘CLOSE TO YOU’.  This is just flat out a great cut. Dreezy show a quick maturity spurt with this track and if she keeps tracks like this coming, well she’s gonna be around for a while.

Both cut are bubbling under (potential mover and shakers…) and only time will tell what these songs are gonna due in the market place, but for right now, GetAtMe stands behind them #4DaDjNU

GetAtMe Urban Airplay Adds Report Card- Dj Khaled 'DO YOU MIND' is out top add this week... #ItsAboutTheMusic | GetAtMe | Scoop.it

Okay here’s this week’s Urban Airplay adds report. Dj Khaled’s ‘DO YOU MIND’ has this week’s top grade in the top 5 added cuts in urban radio.  Here’s the stats:

  • Dj Khaled ‘DO YOU MIND’- Man this cut is loaded with talent (it’s like he’s got a whole RNB/HipHop mixtape in one song…). Nicki Minaj, Chris Brown, August Alsina, Jeremih & Rick Ross (talk about stacking the deck...). This cut had the highest grade but the 10 stations was a run off of last week’s 20+ adds…. Score 35.7/60 grade C+ (WeTheBest/Epic)
  • Beyonce ‘HOLD UP’- Beyonce came in at num 2 (27 stations, the top in station adds this week…). This cut has been circulating online so “we’ll see”…. Score 27.1/60 pts grade C- (Columbia)
  • Fat Joe ‘COOKIN’- This is the followup to ‘ALL THE WAY UP’ and it got 24 stations. This cut is cool and Empire has done a good job of once more securing urban radio.  Also a “we’ll see” cut (Remy Ma ‘HANDS DOWN’ is a hot track and it may be a distraction to this cut… #Ijs).   Score 26.2/60 pts grade C- (RNG/Empire)
  • Kid Ink ‘NASTY’- This is another hiphop/rnb/dancehall cut (but it’s the end of summer so it may not have the same impact in the 3rd and 4th sales quarters…). This is a great cut and dj’s will like it.  It got 22 stations but it still doesn’t have any itunes sales so it is what it is… “mixtape favorite”…  Score 26.1/60 pts grade C- (RCA)
  • Keklani ‘CRZY’- This chick’s folks must have some real bread cause there is a real push going on for her right now. ‘GANGSTA’ sat on youtube for over a year or more and suddenly it sales exploded in the top 20 on itunes (wow…) but the cut that going to radio is this ‘CRZY’. It got 12 stations last week and has shown a real online media push.  “We’ll See”…  Score 21.7/60 pts grade D+ (Atlantic)

That’s this week’s report card.  Remember

GetAtMe TheArtOfHipHop- Are these the children of hiphop...? #ItsAboutTheMoment

GetAtMe TheArtOfHipHop- Are these the children of hiphop...? #ItsAboutTheMoment | GetAtMe | Scoop.it

Hip Hop is not just a communications culture, it also a definition of a culture.  Are these the children of hip hop? Is this what Grand Master Flash meant when he said “It’s like a jungle sometimes it makes me wonder…?”  Did The Ghetto Boys mean this when they said “I think my minds playing tricks on me…?”  Were these the children Slick Rick was speaking of in his classic ‘A CHILDRENS STORY'?  Are these the kids (or hiphop’s grandchildren…?).

Hip Hop started out as party music and as others wanted to be invited to the party, they started redefining hiphop for their own use to define themselves in hiphop’s eyes.  The militants wanted it to be activist music.  The players wanted it to be players music.  The dj’s wanted it to be dj music and the lyricist wanted it to be about the bars.  HipHop as a parent did its best to nuture these children and then theses children had a child… Trap Music (and Trap music grew up hanging out with his cousin gang music, who you didn’t see that much in the hood because at time he was away at one of those facilities #FamilySecrets…).

The real of it is that music for all generations becomes defining moments for that generation in memories and moments and the music is the soundtrack.  Is this picture the defining photo of this hiphop generation?  Is this their portrait and is the music responsible for this or the labels (film at 11…).

One thing we know for sure is that one day someone will revisit this picture and they will either say “wow that’s how we looked?” or “Wow that’s how we looked…”  It’s going to be interesting to hear which one will be the statement when that time comes…

“There’s nothing wrong with the music business that a good song can’t cure…”

GetAtMe DjAlert- Sevyn Streeter PROLLY ft Gucci Mane ... #Prolly | GetAtMe | Scoop.it

Sevyn Streeter is a talent.  Gucci Mane is an icon.  ‘Prolly’ is a hit.  This new cut by Sevyn Streeter is a hot new groove and Streeter delivers (she sound a lot like Rihanna on this cut #Ijs).  Here’s the stats

  • Track- This cut is a nice hookah groove (like I said it sounds like this is a Rihanna song)… 3.8 pts
  • Performance- Sevyn always gives a great performance.  She has the type of voice that’s very urban radio friendly.  Gucci Mane locks the track in with some classic Gucci bars (man it seems everyone’s trying to get Gucci to feature…)… 4.3 pts
  • Muscle- It’s still early on this one but the streets and online are gonna love this cut.  The streets because of Gucci and online because it’s gonna be an RnB/Mixtape must add…3.6 pts
  • Juice- Of course the stripclubs are gonna like this (and if they embrace it, it will surely be a hit) and urban radio will kick in if the other 3 segments (streets, online & clubs) give this new cut legs… 3.1 pts
  • Demographic- Girls are gonna rock this cut and this will be a young bait cut.  Gucci Mane will draw enough youth interest (12-17 m/f) and if the cut catches legs then the young Demo (18-25) will show up… 2.8 pts
  • Hitfactor- Come On its Gucci. But for real for real, this is a great cut a and it may organically do its thing…3.3 pts
  • Total 20.9 pts (out of 30 pts) grade B

“Is it really about hiphop? Or are you just mad cause those hoes flock when that bass drop…?” Dj Bonee Atown Players

As I go by my day to day, I am constantly amazed by what I read in threads (for real its crazy…). I mean I understand that its about HipHop art and all but how some of the folks in this Hip Hop generation is so disconnected, well its scary. I mean I get this image of the mad artist and fans now when I read hiphop threads and comments these days. All this anger, is it really about hip hop?
I mean hiphop has always been a contact sport. Guys who wound up in hip hop usually weren’t the jocks or the school hustler (the hustler end came later when the hustlers became the financiers “if you want to be on a label where you don’t have the ceo dancing in your video…”). They weren’t the honor role cats or the school romeos. They were the out crowd (those other folks showed up later…) and to this day (based on what I’m reading in the thread, they still are the out crowd in a way).
You see theses guys in hiphop (and as djs) created their own subculture where they as nobodies could be somebodies I don’t think they ever dreamed it would get this huge commercially. As a matter of fact it has gotten so big that once again these nobodies (who became somebodies) are back to being nobodies (and by the comments in these threads, they aint taking it well…). In a way, they want their hiphop back.
Yeah they want the hiphop where bars mattered and rappers wrote their own bars and producers made their own beat. They want all these things but what they really want is to go back to being somebodies in their hiphop universe. That might be hard because hiphop now is about the brand and the business of brands and in business the somebodies call the shots (hey how did that happen?)
So no matter what hiphop is to you remember this, hiphop is about how you feel about your personal good time and that good time should not be defined by others (unless they’re spending $1.29 on itunes #lsmh). HipHop is your moment and your ability to choose and control your entertainment. So is it really about HipHop? I think it is.
