"Can't Hold Us"

[Intro:]
Ay, ay, ay
Good to see you, come on in, let's go
Yeah, let's go
Alright, alright
OK, uh, alright, OK
Alright, OK

Return of the Mack, get up!
What it is, what it does, what it is, what it isn’t.
Looking for a better way to get up out of bed
Instead of getting on the Internet and checking a new hit me
Get up! Thrift shop, pimp strut walking, little bit of humble, little bit of cautious
Somewhere between like Rocky and Cosby. Sweater gang, nope, nope y’all can’t copy
Yup. Bad, moon walking, this here, is our party, my posse's been on Broadway,
And we did it, our way.
Grown music, I shed my skin and put my bones into everything I record to it
And yet I’m on.
Let that stage light go and shine on down, got that Bob Barker suit game and plinko in my style.
Money, stay on my craft and stick around for those pounds,
But I do that to pass the torch and put on for my town
Trust me. On my I-N-D-E-P-E-N-D-E-N-T shit hustler,
Chasing dreams since I was 14 with the four track bussing halfway cross that city with the backpack, fat cat, crushing

Labels out here,
Now they can’t tell me nothing
We give that to the people,
Spread it across the country
Labels out here,
Now they can’t tell me nothing
We give it to the people,
Spread it across the country

Here we go back, this is the moment
Tonight is the night, we’ll fight 'til it’s over
So we put our hands up like the ceiling can’t hold us
Like the ceiling can’t hold us
Here we go back, this is the moment
Tonight is the night, we’ll fight 'til it’s over
So we put our hands up like the ceiling can’t hold us
Like the ceiling can’t hold us

GetAtMe 14 year old Jayna Brown blows RISE Up out of the building on America's Got Talent... #ItsAboutTheMusic

GetAtMe 14 year old Jayna Brown blows RISE Up out of the building on America's Got Talent... #ItsAboutTheMusic | GetAtMe | Scoop.it

Andra Day’s cut RISE UP is not only a great song but it’s a flat out hit song.  I first heard about this song last year when I was going to use the RISE UP break in an Atlanta Falcons remix I was doing.  I remember saying “man this is a great song…”  I looked at the songs movement over the months and I saw sales but nowhere near the sales that this great song should’ve had (man its crazy #frfr).  This was really a great song.

Well as this song went into recurrent heaven I just charged it to another example of a great song looked over because someone was too busy trying to look right as opposed to being right (let me be clear, this song should have easily sold like Whitney Houston’s THE GREATEST LOVE OF ALL.  This song is that hot.  Really it’s a great song and Andra day gave a startling performance on the song (If Adele had done this song it would have easily been number 1….).

We’ll Jayna Brown blew this song out of the building the other night on America’s Got Talent and 2.9 million YouTube views later, the world has found their new great voice (just like Susan Boyle…).  Jayna has a great back story and the world loves it’s when an underdog turns the game upside down (will this 14year older be able to become our next Jennifer Hudson?).  Why is her back story great?  Because Jayna was homeless in Baltimore (I don’t think she gonna be homeless for long now…).  Yes I saw that look in Simon’s eye (Cowell) like ‘I’ve just found my next winning situation…’

Is Jayna our next Whitney Houston (this girl has power and control)? I don’t know but what I do know is that she took a great song and gave a great performance and this is why you let fans do covers because now all her friends, new followers and new fans now have heard a song through the voice of a fan (we shouldn’t be trying to charge Jayna for that, let the Jayna’s of the world get that YouTube money…).  When fans choose to add their special to already a great song, well that gives that great song a longer shelf life and that’s why you let fans be the foundation of an organic viral movement (the fans have real followers, not bought ones…).

Congrats to Jayna for letting the world know how great of a song RISE UP is and for letting us know what an exceptional new talent she is and allowing us to see her star begin to shine.  Now that’s what this business of music should be about.

GetAtMe Weekly Urban Adds Report Card Tory Lanez LUV score the highest with a B grade and 25 stations... #UrbanRadio | GetAtMe | Scoop.it

Here at GetAtMe we have decided to start grading the weekly urban radio adds and giving you the real about the top 5 adds real ability to win.  As always usually the determining factor will be itunes sales (the better you’re selling, the better your grade…).  That way we can decipher through industry politics and agendas (sales is the real qualifier…).  Here’s this week’s Report Card…

  • Topping this week’s report card is Tory Lanez LUV (great new cut, also has that dancehall feel…)
  • Dj Mustards DON’T HURT ME ft Nicki Minaj (another great Dj Mustard record, now the question is, will it sell…?)
  • Jidenna LITTLE BIT MORE was at the 3rd slot (from Classic Man fame) and it also has that dancehall feel
  • Luke Nasty’s OTW is num 4 with OTW (using the Toni Toni Toni “Whatever you want “ sample…)
  • Belly YOU is in the 5 slot but it had the most adds with 28 stations (hmmm….)

That’s this week’s GetAtMe Urban Radio adds Report card…

GetAtMe Who Is- The Wrecking Crew Allstars? Thursdays on WREK 91.1 GaTech

GetAtMe Who Is- The Wrecking Crew Allstars? Thursdays on WREK 91.1 GaTech | GetAtMe | Scoop.it

Who is The Wrecking Crew Allstars?

Every Thursday night at 10 PM on Wrek 91.1 Ga Tech, classic hiphop has found a new home.  Talib Shabazz and Randall Moore have relocated the classic hiphop radio show (well it’s really been months now…) from Ga State to Ga Tech.  With the reemergence of this show the duo hopes to re instill an interest in the classic hiphop oldies (these guys have a real passion for this type of hiphop.  They are almost like the hippy rock and rollers these days…).

This is going to be interesting because Atlanta’s hiphop landscape has changed drastically and this show will have to find a comfortable place between the past and now (if they want to attract a new engaged market…).  Old school hiphop is sort of like Motown music, it’s good for the parents but it’s not the kids music (music is usually defined by generational boundaries) and getting busy adults (with bills…) and a new generation of young listeners (who are distracted…) will be a formidable challenge.  A challenge that Talib and Randall are surely up to.

Look old school hiphop is like a genre museum so these guys have to make sure that no matter how they feel about the current state of hiphop, that they convey to new listeners that it’s not an “us vs them” challenge (new listener usually don’t respond to folks telling them “your choice in music is garbage, hey listen to me…”.  A mistake that some hiphop traditionalist make not realizing that they may be being condescending (or they don’t care… Who knows)?  Hopefully Talib and Randall will make sure that the generational bridges play nice (why, because this industry caters to the young dollar, they already have the old dollars…)

The music and the djs on the show are always hot but if it’s just defined by the little Atlanta traditional hiphop circle, does it matter?  Music at times grows when new ears appreciate your craft and you do that by being open to their ideas also  Music is always about growth ( “Beethoven is great but what’s his iTunes sales today…”.).   So check out Talib and Randall this Thursday at 10PM for classic hiphop from classic hiphop djs.

GetAtMe Marq Dean and Stefanie Jewett (from activvely:) at the Pokemon Go event at Piedmont Park... #ItsAboutTheMoment | GetAtMe | Scoop.it

You know all of us who are entrepreneurs have a little bit of dreamer in us. Some psychologist feel that it’s the child part of our personality trying to show the other parts of our personality states that “I’m the one that’s the difference and I makes the difference real for those who can see…” (Or something to that effect…).  Definitely two great child ego states ran across each other paths (“ok Redd no more Dr Berne for you…” #HeGetsCarriedAway) at the Pokemon Go event at Piedmont Park (“and Redd once again why were you at a Pokemon event… #Uuuuum “we’ll get to that later…”).

Stefanie Jewett has a startup named Activvely:, which pairs people with events that socially have the same interest in common (“Um like a 55 year old man at a Pokemon event…?  “Yeah….”) and I’m telling you, this is a great idea.  Come on, no matter what city you’re in you will be able to find others who enjoy activities that you like and enjoy the activities with people you like (now that’s real social networking #frfr…).  Marq Dean is on a mission to bring hiphouse music to mainstream media (#TheMarqDeanMovement )  and the both of these two folks came together to share some time together at an event of common interest and also find out about the other’s dream as a plus (like I said, that’s real social networking…).

I feel that Activvely: is gonna be huge (go check out their website at actively.com ).  Marq Dean is on his way to great things with his music (#TheRedCupTour is on the way…).  Two great positive people with great positive dreams.  What a great way to spend an evening (and you wonder why this 55 year old man was at a Pokemon Go event?  Now you know…).

Hey I gotta go I think Pikachu is calling my name….

“You said you have a dream… that dream… make it true!  Make your wonderful dream a reality, and it will become your truth!  If anyone can, it’s you…”

TheGetAtMeLetter- If you haven't checked out Showtimes new series ROADIES (and your in the music business), I don't know whats wrong with ya... | GetAtMe | Scoop.it

What’s up folks?

First of let me start of by thanking the network Showtime for continuingly bringing great new shows, great content and great writing to television (Billions, Penny Dreadful, House Of Lies, Homeland, and my favorite about TV and writing Episodes.  Go catch any of these and you’ll be pleased).  I mean right when I look at a show and say “Imma pass on this one, I f*ck around and watch an episode and I get hooked on the show (it’s crazy, I wasn’t even checking for Roadies like that, but when I watched it, BAMMM…).

Great television reminds you why you have a feeling about something (to me) and it has a way of reinforcing your feelings toward a situation (at least for me…).  The Showtime shows have this ingredient down like it’s a standard operating procedure (#frfr) and this makes for great Television.

Well after watching 2 episodes of the new Showtime series ROADIES. It definitely gets the great television thumbs up and here’s why.  Roadies reminded me as to why I love the music industry (trust me certain segments of hiphop music, media and TV makes it real hard to continue to love hiphop (hint: #LHHWherever …) and Roadies is an entertaining show that real music industry fans can enjoy.  Show’s like Empire and LoveAndHipHop lacks real substance when it actually comes to relating to the people in the music business (I mean no one on LHH actually sells music or hiphop at all.  Empire’s 1st season was great but after season one it turned into continuous mediatakeout/worldstar stuntfest that at times seemed like the writers were give a directive to write the worst shit possible for oohs and aahs stunts (“lets get men to kiss for views….”).  At times last year’s Empire was just bad (no disrespect Taraji and Terrance, yall deserve better scripts.  I mean when Kevin Hearts folks write better than your folks, well you see where I’m going with this... #ItStartsWithAGreatScript

Now back to my point (I know I just went all across the street and shit…).  Roadies is a great show.  It’s about the gypsy lifestyle of a traveling road crew who are all interesting and cohesive characters as a whole.  After just watching 2 episodes of Roadies, I’m hooked and I want to thank the show for reminding me that the music is about the fans, the feelings and the culture of music (if you do those things right, then not just the money and fame comes, but the legacy to your music is strong).  This ensemble cast does an excellent job of jumping in and out of plot routes to create impactive climax moments (especially this week show #YouGottaSeeIt).  They are funny, sad quirky but most importantly, they are human (which at times it seems like Empire sacrifices for headline stunts…).  These characters are people that you don’t mind sitting down and having a beer with and letting them share their oh so interesting tales with you about the music business #TellMeMore (which is what television is supposed to do…)

The emphasis on the feeling and the culture of music is really what makes this show works.  Look if you’re looking for villainess music industry gangster tales where the executives are shady thieves and the gangsters bully the victimized artist who are too weak to protect themselves (why is this perception in hiphop so prevalent and not so prevalent in other music genres #Hmmmm…), this isn’t the show for you.  If you’re a true lover of the music and the culture of the music industry, then this is your show.  So fix yourself a nice meal, grab some pinot noir and enjoy ShowTime’s ROADIES.  Sundays on SHOWTIME.

I’m ReggieRedd and that’s what I call an entertaining life experience from the front row of life.  GetAtMe

GetAtMe HipHopArtist vs HipHopConArtist Has Hiphop became the WWE? ... #ItsAboutTheMusic

GetAtMe HipHopArtist vs HipHopConArtist Has Hiphop became the WWE? ... #ItsAboutTheMusic | GetAtMe | Scoop.it

Look I realize hiphop is entertainment (that’s not even an issue…), but recently a reader asked me “Well why do the sales matter anyway?”  That was amazing to me.  Why wouldn’t you want to know the sales (that’s when I realized that I may have become Don Quixote (from the Man from La Mancha) and now I spend most of my day fighting hiphop dragons.  The reason this reader felt that the sales numbers were irrelevant is because he’s aware that hiphop has become one big living lie.  I mean come on, we have ex correctional officers acting like mafia bosses, ex child tv stars acting ingenious thug villains, we’re telling people that streams are the same thing as sales (clearly a fugazzi play to fool investors into believing “oh no we haven’t f*cked up your money…) and we have one artist that is so irrelevant in the world of Madison Ave advertising, that they didn’t even hit him with a cease and dissest order when he blatantly infringed upon their copyright (“it wasn’t worth drawing attention to that kind of foolishness…”).  We now spend more time creating beefs than creating hit music.  How can hiphop really expect America or the world to take it seriously?  Artist now attack their exes for media attention and use online sites to steal beats and concepts and the hiphop PR people will say any lie for a check (“I gotta get that check folks…”).  Why has this happened? Because hiphop found it more feasible to invest in HIPHOP CON ARTIST than to invest in HIP HOP ARTIST (“whose gonna believe a con artist when he tells folks that we didn’t pay him…? #lsmh).

Radio on a regular are 6 months late on a record that’s over and never sold, why because someone Is silly enough to pay to get in the cut line to get on radio (and yes” it is still tricking if you got it…” folks just say that to make folks feel good about tricking.).  When I first saw CB4 many years ago, I would have never dreamed that this movie would become the blueprint for how we operate in hiphop today.  That’s MC Gusto would be beefing with all his new challengers through online PR firms and threads.  That the real Gusto wouldn’t realize that these folks were just using up not only his cash but also his street juice (and then dry snitch on him to go to jail or encourage (on the low) for some new and up and coming artist to “do what you have to do to get your spot… (even if it means you robbing and killing the current star as a way of creating a situation for them to rise and where the money owed to the current star is never paid out.  Is this what HipHop has become?  Really?  How did party music that was able to be so impactive in society become just one big financial ruse?  Was it a conspiracy?  Naw it was just some folks who were greedy and not as smart as they think they are constantly coming up with bad ideas and those bad ideas are about to make hiphop as an industry implode.  What Dionne Warrick and C Deloris Tucker couldn’t do, the HipHop Boula has done by creating creating a cancerous environrment in hiphop, and it’s gotta stop.

Look I’m not one to knock anyone’s hustle (I personally don’t count other folks pockets…) but some of this behavior is really bad and is an embarrassing eye for hiphop as an industry.  Hip hop and music has always had its share of snake oil salesmen (it came with the industry) but these folks today are really new and improved and some of the ideas are so bad, you can’t even call them criminal.  They are just bad.

I’m Reggie Redd and as I always say. “here at GetAtMe, It always about the music…”

GetAtMe DjAlert 5On5 mix Tory Lanez 'LUV' is #1... #ItsAboutTheMusic

GetAtMe DjAlert 5On5 mix Tory Lanez 'LUV' is #1... #ItsAboutTheMusic | GetAtMe | Scoop.it

Ok here at GetAtMe we decided to create a mix where we could give some new and interesting indie artist exposure to our dj’s (along with continuing to present the hottest new tracks we like). So this is GetAtMeDJAlert 5On5 (and these first 5 area great debuts.  I liked all of these cuts the more I heard them...)  Here’s the stats:

  • We started out with Tory Lanez new cut ‘LUV’ (this dude’s music is the truth…). Tory Jumps into the summer dancehall groove movement while staying true to what he does (great song). He scored a 73.7 grade B
  • Next we mixed in the new Dreezy ft TPain (this dude has done some great work lately #ThisIndustryShit #SMH) ‘CLOSE TO YOU’ . This is one of the best cut I’ve heard of late.  I sped it up and that gave it a real groove energy (djs are gonna love this cut and radio should also…).  It scored a 69.6 pts grade B.
  • Next we mixed in a new hiphop indie act that’s getting a real underground buzz online Phil Simple ‘MS APPLEBAUM’. First it was brave to redo such a huge hiphop classic and also to transform it to 2016 (literally).  Phil Simple got down on this cut and djs are gonna like this remake of this hiphop classic (what’s in the water in Fayetteville NC.  First JCole and now Phil Simple #LSMH).  It scored a 66.2 pts (which is high due to this cuts lack of industry muscle and juice #IndiesTakeNote).  Grade B.
  • The next cut mixed in was Yo Trane’s ‘LATE NIGHT DRIVE’. This cut Is a soundcloud driven cut but the industry hasn’t caught it yet.  This is a great cut and really deserves an ear (especially if you mixed in ‘UBER EVERYWHERE’ #lsmh).  Great hiphop/rnb cut and definitely a #DjAlert.  It scored a 64.2 pts and its grade was B.
  • Now my surprise this issue was a cut I found in the threads. They were really only talking about how fine this artist was (and whether she could get it...) but they peaked my interest and that made me go take a listen to her music (and yes she is fine and can get it… #lsmh).  Now Jess Molli’s cut ‘IM WIT IT’ was a surprise (the more I heard it, the more I liked it…).  She has a potential stripclub banger (this song sounds a lot like Young Joc’s ‘ITS GOING DOWN’. Really… a lot) and it could mess around and get legs (all she gotta do is get a Gucci feature and this one’s gone #HintHint).  Hope she hears this (#LoudAndClear).  It scored a 52.8 pts but that was only because of her lack of industry muscle but if they position this cut right it could do things (this song could easily be a VINE VIRAL #HintHint if the strategy is executed correctly.  Now remember if this cut blows up, who said it first? #GetAtMe (sometime I gotta remind folks #lsmh).  Its grade is C.

That’s this edition of GetAtMe DJAlert 5On5.

Ok here’s this week’s GetAtMe TopTen.  Every week we rate the top trending new music by street buzz, mixtape action, dj/club traction, radio play and sales.  I want to reiterate, to make it on this chart a song has got be selling (we probably are the only chart that requires this now) and our sales are based solely on itunes sales (I don’t gauge streams because to me a sale is when someone reaches in their pocket and spends money.  (That’s just me although…).  Here’s this week’s stats,

  • Kent Jones DON’T MIND goes to num 1 this week (the hiphop/dancehall is strong this summer…) and Desiigner’s PANDA is still in the top 5 at num 2 (this cut here has staying power…)
  • At num 3 is FatJoe/RemyMa ALL THE WAY UP (Remy Ma is the 1st act that has sold from the LoveAndHipHop series… #FRFR) and at num 4 is Drake’s ONE DANCE (still going strong…)
  • At num 5 is Beyonce’s SORRY (has a great dance cut yall need to hear…) and at num 6 is OT Genesis CUT IT (song has reemerged on the charts…)
  • At num 7 is Rihanna’s NEEDED ME (strong female cut…) and at num 8 is Future WICKED.
  • At num 9 is Dj Khaled’s FOR FREE (burst strongly onto the sales charts…) and at num 10 is Kevin Gates REALLY REALLY (Kevin Gates probably has the most consistent online team in the game right now. They get it done smartly…)
  • Our ON DECK is Drake’s TOO GOOD ft Rihanna (this is a solid hit that’s selling and it’s beating CONTROLLA and other Drake songs. This one’s the winner…) and the Gucci Mane Return Home tour continues with his cut ALL MY CHILDREN (“I think they love you Gucci…”)

That’s this week GetAtMe Top Ten
