GetAtMe HotNewHit Nelly 'DIE A HAPPY MAN' This one's a hit... Score 54pts grade B #DidISayThisWasAGreatSong

GetAtMe HotNewHit Nelly 'DIE A HAPPY MAN' This one's a hit... Score 54pts grade B #DidISayThisWasAGreatSong | GetAtMe | Scoop.it

Man sometimes when I get these cuts I have no idea what to expect, but I always love it when I get a new and creative song.  Man this new Nelly is hot.  Nelly’s has done a cover of Thomas Rhett’s ‘DIE A HAPPY MAN’ and boy is it hot.  This is a flat out great song (is Nelly setting himself up to be the Lionel Richie of HIP POP?  Notice I said HIP POP).  Here’s the stats:

  • TRACK- This track opens well (intro sound like ‘SAME LOVE’ MACKLEMORE…) and the energy is cool (very mellow).  The break is the killer although (great hook but that’s country) and the song is just strong…  SCORE 18pts (out of 20pts) grade A
  • DEMOGRAPHIC- This cut is gonna test the boundaries of hiphop (that’s why I said It was HIP POP).  If Macklemore did this song it would be a no brainer.  Will hip hop except Nelly on this hit song (we already know HIP POP will…)? SCORE 9pts grade C
  • MARKET- of course this isn’t a traditionally street track for djs but the streets with the POP fan base are gonna love this track.  It will carry over into online (mixtapes will be in the air) and urban radio will wait and see (Pop radio and rhythmic should be all over this one #DidISayThisWasAGreatSong) SCORE 9pts grade C
  • HITFACTOR- Nelly is really developing a strong pop fanbase and all signals point to this one doing well.  The track is strong, the performance is great and the song is strong with already strong retail numbers. SCORE 18pts grade A
  • TOTAL 54pts (out of 80 pts) this cut gets a strong B.  This is a strong POP cut and it will be interesting to see how the POP world and HipHop reacts to this great hybrid of a record and music genres.

GetAtMe MC Eiht vladtv interview about 2Pacs death "You could've been here and left a bigger mark..." | GetAtMe | Scoop.it

This was a great interview with MC Eiht on VLADTV.  Honest and truthful is all I can say.  Sometimes the truth is just that simple and folks put in their head, “it has to be more…”  Sometimes bad things happen, period point blank.

MC Eiht goes in depth about maybe Pac was in a place and arena that necessarily he didn’t have to be.  He had gone too far in life and maybe the others who were around him hadn’t gone far enough (which more often than not is the case in street vs reality situations).  A very honest and sincere interview from a very grown perspective.  Why is this type of interview the exception and not the rule in HipHop?

GetAtMe TopTen 1/31/2016 Tory Lanez is #1 with 'SAY IT' ... #GreatSong #ItsAHit | GetAtMe | Scoop.it

Ok on this week’s GetAtMe TopTen Tory Lanez ‘SAY IT’ hits num 1

  • Tory Lanez ‘SAY IT’ is a strong num1…
  • Bryson Tiller’s ‘DON’T’ nice groove cut works on its way to the top…
  • Drake’s ‘JUMPMAN’ still going strong …
  • Back to back Drake ‘HOTLINE BLING’ also is still strong (retail)…
  • Yo Gotti’s ‘DOWN IN THE DM’ strong street cut…
  • Young Thug ‘BEST FRIEND’ is on the rise…
  • The WeekNd has another one with ‘AQUAINTED’
  • Chris Brown’s ‘BACK TO SLEEP’ continues his roll with hot new tracks…
  • J Cole’s ‘NO ROLE MODEL’ the surprise, is holding its own…
  • Curren$y’s ‘BOTTOM OF THE BOTTLE’ resurges with radio play and itunes sales…

Rihanna’s ‘WORK’ made such a huge splash this weeks in new radio play (over 1100 spins, which is crazy on a new song) and debuting in the itunes top 5 (hitting num 1 on day 1).  Bryson Tiller’s ‘EXCHANGE’ is getting crazy mixtape and online support (huge 12-25 female support) and we see moves in radio.

GetAtMe "Yall Say The Darndest Things..." A fan reminds us of someone's past in manipulating sales numbers... #OhWell | GetAtMe | Scoop.it

It's funny how some rappers forget what they say in a rhyme might come back to haunt them (believe me the fans won't forget... #SMH).  Jay Z said "men lie, women lie. numbers don't lie..."  We evidently executives and promo companies do (lsmh).  Look everyone has to get a check but the fugazi sales figures hurt the fans because when the artist cries foul, the licensing folks try to catch up the losses on the real fans head by doing dumb ass fan battle with takedowns (and setting up the promo thieves to hit another lick by charging for more promos sales to fake fans #WTF).  If I didn't know licensing people were so niave, I would swear they were in on the lick but no they're usually just an over excited professional fan trying to find their area of importance and relevance in the music game.

This fan although in a thread reminded us of this day in history (when keeping it real showed up later to remind someone of their words... #wow

GetAtMe B.O.B. when hiphop entertainment crashes into hiphop consciousness... #Boommm | GetAtMe | Scoop.it

Imma tell you off the rip, B.O.B. is a find (and trust he know that).  B.O.B. the product has somehow crashed into B.O.B. the rapper and the internal war seems to be on.  If you listen to B.O.B.’s rhymes it’s clear that this dude is on another level and why anyone at any label was under the impression that they would be able to water him down and mold him is crazy (but that’s the labels for you, LabelHubris).  On the other hands why B.O.B. felt like the labels would let him speak his mind after making tons of money in the commercial realm (“oops  my bad..”) may have also been disingenuous (come on B.O.B., you know you wouldn’t have gotten in the door if you would have taken that consciousness approach.  This guy is not what the old folks call “smart dumb”).  B.O.B (from what I’ve heard through his music) is just plain smart and is this illuminate rant might just be a negotiation ploy because the bread he expected from these folks didn’t show up? Hmmmm...

B.O.B. is a massive talent (only J.Cole to me is above him as a story teller and rapper) so why has he allowed hiphop entertainment to clash with hiphop consciousness (only he would know FRFR).  But be clear this dude is an exceptional talent both as an entertainer and writer.

Is there a conspiracy in hiphop?  No more than any other place where power and money cross paths.  Look people put up their money and FRFR, hiphop isn’t a low interest play because of its high risk factor.  It doesn’t matter how talented you are because there will always be more of a supply in hiphop that demand that has to be delivered at the  right marketing moment in spite of industry politics (only a few hits are chosen and that done by actual sales).  For real it’s tough to get a hit in hiphop and it’s expensive.

Hopefully B.O.B. will find a way to get his 2 warring spirits to compromise and we can get back to enjoying this truly talented, innovative and honest lyricist.

GetAtMe GoodBye Mr White and thank you for the music... Maurice White R.I.P. 'KEEP YOU HEAD TO THE SKY' | GetAtMe | Scoop.it

In a day where we are on a day to day basis inundated with information about who did what silly in hiphop and what rapper is beefing with who knows who, we forget that this business is about entertainment and the music.

Maurice White Passed on the 3rd of February and music has truly lost one of its giants (that could entertain and the music was always first).  He will be missed.  His music although from Earth Wind and Fire will be with us till the end of time.  Whether it’s ‘KEEP YOUR HEAD TO THE SKY’ or ‘REASONS’.  It could be ‘AFTER THE LOVE IS GONE’ or ‘LOVERS HOLIDAY’.  It could be ‘FANTASY’ or ‘BOOGIE WONDERLAND’.  Somewhere someone will be playing an Earth Wind and Fire song till the end of time (Like Beethoven…).  Someone will be enjoying the essence of this man’s music.

White’s music was a mystical blend of great musicianship, spiritualism and extraterrestrial existentialism combined with an exciting stage show with great performers and musician that to this day no one has matched its impact on the soul of the music and the soul of his music fans.  Like I said, Maurice White was a giant in mentality in a world of little man thinking in the music business and culture.  He will be missed.

Mr. White, I will ‘KEEP MY HEAD TO THE SKY”

GetAtMe Whats really going on with Tinashe? (I mean all the pieces are there...)

GetAtMe Whats really going on with Tinashe? (I mean all the pieces are there...) | GetAtMe | Scoop.it

From the very beginning we here at GetAtMe have always appreciated the artist Tinashe (we love the underdogs…).  We have always championed artist like Tinashe, Tink, Vanjess, Jessica Sanchez because they are special talents.  Tinashe and Tink are signed.  Jessica Sanchez is doing something with Interscope (we think) and Vanjess is still looking for that call from a label.  We got behind these act because they are strong.  Really Strong.

Tinashe blew up with the ‘2 ON’ cut and quite frankly, it’s a mystery why an artist with great chemistry, attractive, great music, solid fan base and talent is not in the same stratosphere as Fetty Wap.  I mean Tinashe has not only good product, she has the fire.  So what’s going on?

The cut she did with Chris Brown ‘PLAYER’ was solid and the new product is just as strong.  So what is it going to take for her to solidify herself as an artist?  She has all the tools and she has hits.  Only time will tell.  Is hiphop maybe holding Tinashe back?  Maybe, just maybe Tinashe is bigger than hiphop and the rest of the world knows that.  Like I said only time will tell.

It’s amazing that in the online hiphop threads and gossips sites, noone really focuses on her music (which is really good).  Its’ crazy that she’ll get more attention from this great complex cover (that’s really hot) and some will miss how special this young lady’s talent really is.

Check out the cover article in Complex magazine for an in-depth look at this truly special talent.

Rising Star Rich The Kid Explains How To Make Money As A Rapper

Rising Star Rich The Kid Explains How To Make Money As A Rapper | GetAtMe | Scoop.it

Atop a banquette in the makeshift V.I.P. section of lower Manhattan’ D.I.Y. venue Elvis Guesthouse, Rich The Kid stood tall to oversee the crowd that came out for him. Dressed almost entirely in Supreme and with a Hennessy bottle in hand, the Atlanta rapper was minutes away from performing live for a young diverse New York crowd of tastemakers, trendsetters, and music industry reps.

To say Rich is on his come up would be an understatement. During our conversation a few days earlier, he made clear just how much he has on deck. ”Everybody’s realizing now that I’m the hardest working in the industry–period,” he said.

After last year’s collaborative releases with artists like Fetty Wap and iLoveMakonnen, he’s got music with Diplo, Frank Ocean, Jaden Smith, Ty Dolla Sign, and Justin Bieber already lined up for 2016, to name but a few. Last week, major label EDM duo GTA released their “My Mamacita” single with him, which garnered over 115,000 SoundCloud plays in just six days time. Given his current rate of output, he anticipates dropping his debut album this summer with Quality Control Music and Lyor Cohen’s 300 Entertainment.

Ostensibly in town headlining the Young Hustle tour, Rich seemed intent on making the most of his New York visit, spending no small part of it recording new material with the likes of Mac Miller and up-and-comer Playboi Carti. “I did the studio yesterday,” he said. “I’m at the studio like literally right now.” In addition to playing his own show at notable downtown hip-hop club SOBs, he also appeared as a guest onstage during Billboard Hot 100 artist G-Eazy’s recent sold-out run at Terminal 5, a 3000 person capacity venue.

This time last year, many of these people were likely unfamiliar with Rich. Those clued in to the mixtape circuit no doubt caught his verses on the Streets On Lock projects alongside Migos, the trap trio who first broke out in 2013 with the RIAA gold-certified hit “Versace.” But even before his association with that group and Quality Control, he was releasing mixtape compilations of his work under an assumed DJ name through popular website LiveMixtapes.

Indicative of those tapes’ influence, one such project entitled Lobby Runners featured early work from current hip-hop phenomenon Young Thug. “I’m in the background for a lot of stuff,” Rich said. “People don’t know.”

Still, at this highly competitive time in rap music, making money while trying to make it can prove an enormous challenge. In addition to live performance fees and streaming royalties, Rich explained that recording guest verses or chorus hooks on commission makes for a significant revenue source. ”I make a lot of money off featuring, doing songs with up-and-coming artists,” he said. “I can charge someone $10,000 to $15,000 to do one song.” Given his rapidly growing profile, that price range is probably already outdated.

The requests for features typically come through his management, and Rich estimated he can do around 5 or so in a given week.  ”Everybody wants to work with me right now,” he said with a modest laugh. ”If I’m not on tour or doing a show, I’m in the studio.” He describes his work ethic as going from “working hard to the hardest working.”

Expectations are high for what Rich could accomplish this year. He’s following the Young Hustle Tour almost immediately with Migos on The Dab Tour. He’s also not limiting himself to one genre. In addition to the GTA single, he’s worked with EDM acts like Carnage and Steve Aoki. Released last month, the latter’s ”How Else” features Rich and has more than 720,000 SoundCloud plays so far. His dream collaborator? “Katy Perry.”

“This year, you’re not going to know what to expect from me,” he said.

GetAtMe Diary Of A Hitman "Here's why sales matters..." (I'm amazed someone asked me this..)

GetAtMe Diary Of A Hitman "Here's why sales matters..." (I'm amazed someone asked me this..) | GetAtMe | Scoop.it

You know the music business has changed a lot due to the online age.  Somehow people (who usually can’t sell their music) rationalize that the sales don’t matter.  “It’s about the money…” (I‘m so sick of hearing that… No it’s about the sales.  The sales matter because it’s really the only way to gauge a song's value and success. therefore gauging your true value as an artist.  Look in the music business there’s a process called seeding (where product is provided to stimulate sales (i.e. a 1000 free items to drive word of mouth to 10,000 sales) and when we had cds in mall stores this strategy usually worked (but it also created holes for theft by(let’s just say creative) employees.  The skinny is though, that the cds still sold.  Well with online it’s still the same but it hard to make accounting of product that doesn’t have an actual hard copy.  So now it’s become open house for the marketing people (and they use the licensing groups to be their hall monitors and distractions to attack real fans while they over charge the artist for manufactured sale from fake fans (that sound crazy huh..).

Well if you want real money then build your own real fan base with real money who will support your music.  The labels are in the business of selling manufactured sales to investors (RENT TO OWN fame, that’s a nice way to put it...) so if you want control over your music and future, then don’t use their money, resources or juice.  Because they are going to charge you for it (FRFR and the interest is high).

If no one can gauge your true sales then no one can gauge your true value, and then the labels can charge you to create a fake beef to generate fake sales.  Real sales generate real revenue in somebody’s paypal account.  Why not yours (I mean you can’t upload your own mp3)?  I’m ReggieRedd and this is a DIARY OF A HITMAN (I know where the bodies at…)
