Good gut, better health

To avoid him from being cranky and uncomfortable, here are some tips by Positive Parenting Programme under the Malaysian Paediatric Association on digestive health for babies and toddlers.
Team Sorbeo's insight:

Our digestive systems are complex systems that include a mix of external bacteria and microbes. It can take years to build a strong, healthy gut, and it starts from a young age. As soon as children are able to consume solid foods, they are best served avoiding fried, salty and sugary foods as they can cause indigestion, heartburn and flatulence. Raw eggs should also be avoided for the first 2 - 3 yrs of life in a child.

Team Sorbeo's insight:

Could FODMAP be the answer for chronic digestive ailments like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)? At a high level, the idea looks like it could work. FODMAP as a cure to irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) focuses on removing certain sugars and complex carbohydrates from the diet. This includes not only gluten, but also other complex molecules that can cause troubles. It's definitely worth looking into.

VanElzakker's hypothesis states that the symptoms of CFS are caused by infections in vagus nerve ganglia.
Team Sorbeo's insight:

The idea that chronic fatigue can be caused by the vagus nerve isn't that surprising. Researchers are increasingly beginning to believe that misfiring nerve endings plays a critical role in digestive disorders like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Celiac disease, Crohn's disease and colitis.

Angelo Santa Ana's curator insight, June 27, 2013 9:15 PM

So strange, more gentic modifying. I thought the amount of gluten was fairly low until they started to modify it to store longer in the grain elevators. Why ddon't we go back to those seeds prior to the gentic modifying. Let's sue companies like Monsanto who have modified the new seeds and for contaminating the surrounding farms with their bad seed. I've seen that Mondanto has sued family owned farms who have found strais of thier seed in farms that have not bought their corn seed. Let's turn it around and see if we can move back to what nature has made.

CIMMYT, Int.'s comment, June 28, 2013 4:39 PM
I have to provide some info here: as per today (June 28, 2013) there is no GMO wheat variety released in any country. All wheat varieties grown world wide (and we are talking possibly about couple of thousands of varieties were all developed by conventional breeding (plus induced mutation in some few cases). Wheat varieties from the time before intensive breeding would hardly survive in todays environment - most of them do not have resistance to current strains of wheat diseases. they are very tall (lodging easily) and their yields are 5-10 times lower than current yields all around the world - meaning we wouldn't have enough food. There is NO way back, just ahead. and if the technology enables to get faster beter quality products - what is wrong with the technology? Saying that I am by no means defending Monsanto or any other of the multinationals. but these companies are not exclusive holders of the genetic modification technology, public sector can use it too ....
Angelo Santa Ana's comment, June 30, 2013 12:49 AM
