The Growth of Social Media: From Passing Trend to International Obsession [Infographic] - SocialTimes

The Growth of Social Media: From Passing Trend to International Obsession [Infographic] - SocialTimes | Get Social - social media informatie | Scoop.it

While many platforms have come and gone, the growth of social media indicates that more people are catching on and using social networks to connect.

First there was AOL and chat rooms and Live Journal and a whole host of other social networks. Whilemany have come and gone, some more notable than others, it’s clear social networking is no passing trend.

For those of us who were on MySpace before it was decimated by Facebook, you know what is was like to be mocked by people who simply didn’t get it. However, a Search Engine Journal infographic aboutthe growth of social media indicates that more people are opting to use social networks to connect and communicate.

Since 2004, the growth of social media has been near exponential. Back in those days, Facebook — arguably the most mature of the top social networks — only had about 1 million users. By 2011 the network had grown so large, its population was being compared to that of a country. Today, Facebook has more than 1 billion registered users and Mark Zuckerberg has made connecting 5 billion more of a personal mission.

Social Media Friendly Content that Boosts SEO: 8 Tips for Bloggers

Social Media Friendly Content that Boosts SEO: 8 Tips for Bloggers | Get Social - social media informatie | Scoop.it

“If Social media and SEO fit together like peanut butter and jelly, then content is the bread that holds them together.” ~  Lee Odden:

Using content to enhance search engine optimization (SEO) is about creating “stuff” — on your website, blog, and on social media platforms — in such a way that the content (and thus your website or Facebook Page) appear higher in search rankings. Statistics from analytics company Searchmetrics show that seven of the 10 most important factors in SEO ranking currently come from social media:

Googlenutella+, Facebook Shares, Facebook Total, Facebook Comments, Facebook Likes, Pinterest and Tweets. According to this same report, Facebook shares are as influential as the number of backlinks.

Here are 8 tips for creating social-media friendly content that ranks:

Nuttige tips!

Bill Gassett's curator insight, February 18, 2014 11:47 AM

While the advice in this article is sound the one thing that jumps out at me is the continued notion that social sharing DIRECTLY effects SEO rankings! Folks it does not! The people that continuously put out these reports are the same people that make info-graphics they want you to write articles about and imbed their info-graphics on your site.

How many times does Google itself have to tell us that Facebook shares, likes and tweets do not increase SEO?

Without links the social signals don't mean squat!

Social media has become an essential part of our daily lives, but, with so many networks out there fighting for our attention which networks are we really using? Overall, 72% of adults over the age of 18 used a social network in 2012. Currently Facebook is still the most popular site with 62% of adult global Internet users actively logging in, with nearly half of these users active on Twitter too...

Make sure that you understand the target audience and i dentify the social media they prefer. In Indonesia, the total internet user reach 23,% out of the total population and mostly are young people, 15-19 years old.Recently, we have seen the growth of Twitter users . This is an opportunity for librarians to  a good opportunity for librarian to reach more audience

Siri Anderson's curator insight, January 26, 2014 2:20 PM

I find it interesting to note parallels and contrasts between use of social networks in f2f environments and online environments.  In some instances the online version works better for those who flounder in person. In some cases people who love the real world interactions disparage the online ones. But for most of us, there seems to be a parallel in our patterns and style it would seem. Where should children "learn" how to do this, or is that lesson beside the point at this time?

Social Media Anxiety...Get Over It

Social Media Anxiety...Get Over It | Get Social - social media informatie | Scoop.it

Social Media Anxiety
Got to love social media. First social media has to prove it matters and isn't just a game then people worry about "doing it wrong". Yes there are "wrong" ways to create social media content...remember when we all started sharing exactly what was happening in the moment? Don't do that anymore.

Next we had the quote stage and now we seem to be getting the idea of how to surf social media. Some still have anxiety about jumping in or doing the wrong thing.

The half-life a tweet is hours. Remember you are in an ocean of content, so surf don't try to hold, compress or rule it. Here is another anti-anxiety pill for SMM. Look around, I've yet to follow or RT someone so brilliant I shouldn't be allowed in the same social space (lol). Yes they are out there, but I may never find them :).

Social media is the great level. What you can SEE and FEEL fast is we all have the same obsessions, fears, strengths, weaknesses, doubts and frustrations. Social shows our humanity in all its glory and aspirations.

Here is the other issue. If you are an Internet marketer, and who isn't these days, then social media anxiety can HURT. Don't let your "Sistine Chapel" perfectionism stop you from making social media mud pies. M

Eye Tracking 101: How Your Eyes Move on a Website

Eye Tracking 101: How Your Eyes Move on a Website | Get Social - social media informatie | Scoop.it

Engage website visitors better by designing your site to match how people's eyes move on the page. Here are some surprising eye tracking stats to help.

Putting together a great looking website is a great start, but it is just a start.

True web design requires you to venture beyond the aesthetic and into the worlds of User Experience and Conversion Rate Optimization.

Knowing how the viewers of your site really see it can help to shine light on new and/or missed opportunities within your current design. It may also bring out the need for new elements or changes.

While there are plenty of options for improving CRO, eye tracking analysis provides some of the most useful information for optimizing your biggest digital marketing asset, your website.

A good design will catch people’s eye, but a great design will keep people on your site and get them engaged with your content. And while you shouldn’tunderestimate the power of good copy, your design is what people notice first.

We teamed up with our friends over at Single Grain to put together the infographic below in hopes that it will help everyone get a better, basic understanding of what eye tracking is and what it can do.

The future of wearables: 8 predictions from tech leaders | Get Social - social media informatie | Scoop.it

Wearables: Everybody in the tech world is talking about them, but no one has quite nailed it -- yet.

The category, which includes everything from smart glasses that record video to watches that answer phone calls, is generating some of the biggest buzz in the tech industry, and for good reason. Wearables are a long way from overtaking smartphones, but the market is expected to grow at a fast pace over the next few years.

Perhaps no one has a better view of what's ahead in the wearables market than the companies supplying the critical components. CNET talked with top executives from ARM Holdings, Broadcom, Freescale, Intel, Mediatek, and Qualcomm -- which will supply the brains and wireless chips for these devices -- to find out their views on where wearables are going. Here are some of their thoughts...

What Is Snapchat?

What Is Snapchat? | Get Social - social media informatie | Scoop.it

A primer on the photosharing service that Facebook reportedly offered to buy for $3 billion.

.... How does Snapchat actually work?

Once you've found your friends on Snapchat, you can simply start taking pictures and sending them out to as many friends as you want. The app has a couple of distinguishing features in terms of photo taking. One, users can draw on their photos. So that's funny sometimes. Two, you can caption any photo. Three, you get to set how long — from 1-10 seconds — the photograph will be visible to receivers. Crucially, too, the app tells you when your snaps are opened by the receiver. You know they saw it....

Henry Lee's curator insight, March 16, 2015 8:59 PM

Basically Snapchat enables people to send pictures or videos, which self-destruct, to people in their network. I believe this type of app is ideal for sharing sensitive information. For example, Kim and Vi have proposed a social media learning strategy for medical residents that may contain highly sensitive PII information. Snapchat may be the perfect tool to support this learning strategy aside from building an entirely new information sharing program.
