Adventures of a Knowledge Manager: When knowledge walks. Tactical Knowledge Retention in KM

Adventures of a Knowledge Manager: When knowledge walks. Tactical Knowledge Retention in KM | Gestión de conocimiento | Scoop.it

"You never forget a good teacher… The lovely Mrs Lowe managed to communicate the importance of good dental hygiene, where dentists and countless ad campaigns had failed. Her humble props of a jar, an egg and a litre of cola were enough to convince us kids not to wait for decay and use Colgate today.

As a manager I’d have missed her contribution to the school. As a knowledge manager, it would be the regret at losing her expertise, assumptions, values and insight that would inevitably occur when Mrs Lowe finished her class for the last time.

You see this all the time of course – workers, good workers like Mrs Lowe, with years of experience leaving an organisation in planned or unplanned ways with little or no thought about how this knowledge loss could be mitigated.

When bossman asked me to look into creating a procedure for tactical knowledge retention, I was only too happy to help. Perhaps the start and tail ends of an employees lifecycle are the most crucial periods, both in terms of how they are supported and the steps taken to mitigate critical knowledge loss. I’ll attempt to provide an overview of the exit process."

conversation matters: The Three Eras of Knowledge Management

conversation matters: The Three Eras of Knowledge Management | Gestión de conocimiento | Scoop.it

"In this video I describe the Three Eras of knowledge management that I have previously written about on this blog, Where Knowledge Management has Been and Where it is Going – Part One, Part Two, and Part Three.

My understanding about the third era continues to grow so I have elaborated the third era in this post. In the earlier blog post I called the third era, “collective knowledge” and I remain convinced that collective knowledge is at the heart of this change. It is the "means," but what is being managed are ideas. So I am using “Idea Management" as the label for the third era both in this video and in the accompanying chart.

The first two eras, Information Management and Experience Management dealt with existing knowledge, that is, knowledge that an individual or a group has gained and is available to be shared with others. The third era is about the creation or development of ideas that have not existed before."

Digital Curation: A Comprehensive Resource Guide | Gestión de conocimiento | Scoop.it

Robin Good: Excellent guide to digital curation resources by Charles W. Bailey, Jr.. It includes alphabetically organized lists of digital-curation related resources from academic programs to file formats, guidelines, organizations, blogs, and a very rich list of digital curation software tools.

From the site: "This resource guide presents selected English-language websites and documents that are useful in understanding and conducting digital curation. It is also available as an EPUB file (see How to Read EPUB Files)."

Excellent. 9/10

Interesting take on a few forms of curation that can be used.  Infographic is, as the creator remarked, a little crowded, however the information is useful.

La Pirámide de Colaboración: Creación de Valor (Oscar Berg)

La Pirámide de Colaboración: Creación de Valor (Oscar Berg) | Gestión de conocimiento | Scoop.it

Blog The Content Economy (http://www.thecontenteconomy.com)

Future of learning: obsolescence of knowledge, return to real teaching

Future of learning: obsolescence of knowledge, return to real teaching | Gestión de conocimiento | Scoop.it

"The future of learning is far more than new devices, digital content and online classrooms. It means potentially rewritten relationships between students and information, teachers and instruction, and schools and society"

"As schools adopt new instructional technology, debate has centered on the changing role of teachers, with critics concerned that online videos and other tools will diminish the role of the teacher. But in the film, Coursera’s Koller says one of the revolutions in education is that teaching will be less about conveying information and more of a return to its original roots where instructors engage in dialogue, develop critical thinking skills and spark passion about a discipline"

“Knowing something is probably an obsolete idea,” he says in the documentary. “You don’t actually need to know anything. You can find out at the point when you need to know it. It’s the teacher’s jobs to point young minds to the right kind of question. The teacher doesn’t need to give any answers because answers are everywhere.”

TheWorkSocial - Home - Personal Knowledge Management: Don’t Be Afraid to Delete Your Info Dump | Gestión de conocimiento | Scoop.it

¿Podría ser una forma de curar información?

"I’m an information hoarder.

Simply put, I acquire far more knowledge than I can consume. More books, articles, pamphlets, links, tweets, blog posts, and infographics than I will ever have time to properly, as Harold Jarche explains, seek, sense, and share.

In response I did something I didn’t think I ever would: I deleted all the Kindle files. It felt really good. I reasoned that if I hadn’t read or used an article yet, I will likely find a successor in the future. Good information gets cited in blogs over and over again. That’s why your connections are more important than the information itself."
