An Architecture for Real-Time Geo-tracking with Python, Celery, RabbitMQ, and More

An Architecture for Real-Time Geo-tracking with Python, Celery, RabbitMQ, and More | Geospatial Technologies | Scoop.it

One of the key challenges with this type of architecture is when you need to get state from the database. Clients end up polling for many real-time tracking scenarios. This presents a problem when, for example, you have 1000s of vehicles confirming state every second. Polling the database at this rate can create an overwhelming and unnecessary amount of traffic. And it doesn’t scale.

I have implemented a very similar stack on a very high volume site, instead of the Node/Websocket we used Erlang/Ejabberd which offers many advantages over the Node approach. Certainly location is still one of the big areas of mobile development that haven't really been fully exploited.

Map & Street View API in Excel

Map & Street View API in Excel | Geospatial Technologies | Scoop.it

The demo combines 4 static street view images and 2 static (non-interactive) map images (road & satellite) into an Excel panorama view using Google's static MAP & Street View APIs.

The Google Static Map v2 API service creates a static (non-interactive) map based on URL parameters sent through a standard HTTP request and returns the map as an image, which you can be displayed in Excel.

In the same way, the Google Street View Image API creates a Street View panorama. The viewport is defined with URL parameters sent and is returned as a static image in Excel.

Bayesian Methods for Hackers

Bayesian Methods for Hackers | Geospatial Technologies | Scoop.it

Bayesian Methods for Hackers is designed as a introduction to Bayesian inference from a computational/understanding-first, and mathematics-second, point of view. Of course as an introductory book, we can only leave it at that: an introductory book. For the mathematically trained, they may cure the curiosity this text generates with other texts designed with mathematical analysis in mind. For the enthusiast with less mathematical-background, or one who is not interested in the mathematics but simply the practice of Bayesian methods, this text should be sufficient and entertaining.
