What I find interesting here is that this ridge was supposed to be part of an intra-oceanic volcanic arc, marking the subduction zone between converging lithospheric plates  (http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0012821X01005349?np=y ).

 

If large parts of this system are sedimentary, what are the implications for the subduction theory?
