Summit will bring leaders together to discuss region's 'brain drain'

Summit will bring leaders together to discuss region's 'brain drain' | Geography Education | Scoop.it
An upcoming summit in Huntingburg, Ind.will bring together rural community leaders to tackle the issue of 'brain drain.'...

This issue of brain drain is not only one that impacts less developed countries, but it is also visible in rural parts of the developed world on a smaller scale.   Fundamentally, it is a geographic issue as the economics, job opportunities and cultural amenities impact the demographic profile of places.

Essays on Geography and GIS

Seth Dixon's insight:

This set of 19 short essays (around 3-4 pages each) is a great supplemental text.  I am eager to read them and other resources in the ESRI library.

The Cultural Landscape: An Introduction to Human Geography

The Cultural Landscape: An Introduction to Human Geography | Geography Education | Scoop.it

Lately there has been a lot of chatter online about searching for "chapter study guides."  While this is not the most recent edition of the text, it is a publicly accessible online companion site (hence, no need to have purchased the text to access this). This has numerous "study guide-like" features (reviewing concepts, critical thinking, short essays, etc.) that could be a beneficial for teachers to find resources as well as to give to students for them to use as supplemental materials.

AP Human Geography Class Wiki

AP Human Geography Class Wiki | Geography Education | Scoop.it

"This wiki exists to cultivate the disciplinary literacy of AP Human Geography Students at GPHS..."

A fun course webpage, with chapter/unit overviews, links, video clips, charts, etc.   What makes this one distinct is that it was collaboratively created by the students working on the unit summaries.  Nice job GPHS APHG students of 2008!

AP Human Geography Course Page

AP Human Geography Course Page | Geography Education | Scoop.it

An excellent AP Human Geography course page with many solid resources.  The bulk of the resources (activities, graphic organizers, articles, etc.) is within the "unit files" and therefore thematically arranged.  Thanks for sharing your resources; you make Windsor High School proud!

Study Guides for "The Cultural Landscape"

Study Guides for "The Cultural Landscape" | Geography Education | Scoop.it

If you need reading guides/study guides for the Rubenstein textbook, the AP Human Geography link has good content.  This page also has good resources for other history/social studies classes (European History, Government, World History, US History, Economics).   This is all the work of Jim Nelsen, teacher extraordinaire from Milwaukee, WI.
