Mapping How Americans Talk

Mapping How Americans Talk | Geography Education |

Enhanced video based on previous "soda vs. pop vs. Coke" maps

Seth Dixon's insight:

I'm from California, and yes, this is a freeway.  This fun 4 minute video highlights some previously shared language maps.

Very insightful video about the differences in dialecs throughout the united states. I would say I am experienced when i comes to lingustic changes because i lived on the North Dakota Minnesota border for 2 years. And let me tell you it is impossible to get a a midwestern local to call a carbonated beverage a soda they refuse to call it anything other than pop. You could say its became apart of their local culture and heiritage.

This Dilect Survey is a very comical yet accurate take on how Americans pronouce the same words in different areas. As a Rhode Islander, the ways in which we classify words such as soda or the highway are much different than those of the south or western coast. Differnt regions, different words, same meanings.
