The majority of these 'drowned buildings' are the direct result of decisions to dam a river and create a reservoir, create hydroelectricity, etc. How should we analyze this type of cultural landscape? What does it 'say' about the multiple groups that have contributed to this layered, complex landscape? Pictured here is the St. Nicolas Church in Macedonia, an 1850 building that is losing to the unrelenting 2003 reservoir that at times fully submerges the building.

The International Monetary Fund has censured Argentina for failing to supply accurate economic data, the first time the global crisis lender has taken such an action against a member.

The debt was paid with the IMF in 2006 but now the IMF will assist Argentina with data collection-their sovereign debt is indexed to inflation, and wonder what their international debt is

Perhaps Argentina's under-reported inflation percents is due to the fact that its sovereign debt is indexed to inflation and has deep international debt but the IMF will assist Argentina with data collection (since 2006 their debt was paid with the IMF)

This is quite the amazing photo. It expresses both the beauty and implacable power of nature. I am also amazed, yet never surprised, to discover the facility that was built on the edge of the falls, to offer the experience to all viewers. It is another model of human ingenuity.

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) — South American engineers are trying to tackle one of the continent's greatest natural challenges: the towering Andes mountain chain that creates a costly physical barrier for... At the NCGE conference, noted author Harm De Blij mentioned a daring project that would link Eastern South America with the Pacific as engineers were planning to tunnel under the Andes mountains. Here is a link to an article on this intermodal transportation project that would lower the shipping costs from East Asia to the Southern Atlantic. Government officials in both Argentina and Brazil have described the project as a matter of "national interest."
