Week 14 (November 17 - 23)

Illinois Governor Pat Quinn  signed a law on Wednesday legalizing same-sex marriage in the state. That made Illinois the 16th state to permit gay marraige.President Obama's home state, Illinois, is where Democrats hold the governor's office and majorities in both legislative bodies,The state legalized same-sex unions in 2011, but Quinn said the new law would complete some "unfinished business" and help ensure that "love is not relegated to a second-class status" for anyone.

This comes as to no suprise as there is definitely a Democratic majority in the political sphere of Illinois. In fact, Im suprised that same-sex marriage wasn't legalized sooner if there was such a large majority. But it's been a good year for the national LGBT movement as 8 states have legalized gay marraige so far. Years ago, I thought it might've been impossible, but soon enough most of the country is gonna be same-sex legalzied pretty soon. This is great news for gays everywhere.

In 2010, when James Appleton knew that the volcano Eyjafjallajökull was erupting, he made a journey to Iceland to take some photographs.
Although he was facing extreme weather conditions, he believed that taking the risk was worth the potential rewards.

After hitchhiking to the volcano, Appleton managed to take these stunning photos of an eruption with the northern lights gracing the skies.

Check out these mesmerizing, brightly-colored shots below.

China's generation gap

China's generation gap | Geography | Scoop.it

"Chinese parents bemoan the laziness and greed of their children, but this generation of young people has had enough.  Parents who spent their own twenties labouring on remote farms have children who measure their world in malls, iPhones, and casual dates."

China rapid economic ascent has been astounding, but it has led to some interesting cultural dynamics as parents and children are literally from different worlds.
