Tony Abbott, Australia’s prime minister elect, vows to abolish the Carbon Tax which will benefit Australia’s coal industry. The tax went into effect in July 2012, under then-Prime Minister Julia Gillard’s Labor government. Under the carbon tax system, the country’s top 500 polluters are charged $22 for each ton of carbon emitted into the atmosphere. Hooke noted that even before the carbon tax, Australia was still paying ridicules taxes. The carbon tax is a “dead-weight on the economy’ and if Liberal abolish the tax, then the mining companies will have more money to put back into the economy.

AREA/GEOGRAPHY

New Zealanders fresh water is in danger. New Zealanders feel the need to protect the water that they have now.  They're low land rivers, lakes, and streams are mostly polluted now. Forest & Bird Conservation Advocate, Nicola Vallance says he is now trying to use a precautionary aproach based on science to fix there water quality.

In the decision, to make this water quality improve the commissioners noted that the main cause for environmental effects was leaching of harmful nutrients from the irrigated pasture into groundwater, and from there into the streams, rivers and lakes.  There is still a great amount of decisions to make on the water consent  applications.
