Blake's insight:

This is the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg and looking at it from today's point of view you realize the huge impact this one battle had on the world to come.  We have created a holiday based off this battle and the victory the US gained this day.  Without this the USA would not be the same as it is today.

Dutch 'Steve Jobs schools' to use Apple's iPad for entire education experience

Dutch 'Steve Jobs schools' to use Apple's iPad for entire education experience | Geography 101 | Scoop.it
This August, 11 so-called "Steve Jobs schools" will open in the Netherlands, serving 1,000 students primarily through educational apps on Apple's iPad, replacing everything from books to blackboards.
Blake's insight:

Even though Steve Jobs is not around anymore he is still making an impact in the world and mostly with the educational portion of the world.  Now opening are 11 so-called "Steve Jobs schools" which will be focusing primarily on arithmetic, reading and text comprehension.  The schools focus will be on using iPad’s instead of textbooks and the teachers will not be teaching the children but helping them such as coaches would do.  This will be the new wave of education coming into the world where technology has a huge impact in years to come. Joyous Croatia Joins Europe Amid a Crisis

Joyous Croatia Joins Europe Amid a Crisis | Geography 101 | Scoop.it
The Balkan country became the 28th member of the European Union on Monday as the trading bloc grapples with upheaval in the euro zone.
Blake's insight:

Even with Europe shaken by financial problems Croatia still joined the EU after waiting nearly 9 years to do so.  With Croatia joining the EU it gives it the ability to access a market of about 500 million consumers as well as about $18 billion in financing for the country from 2014 to 2020.  Even though the EU is in the middle of the crisis this will help Croatia in the long run and it shows that countries still believe in the EU and that it will rise again in the future.
