Genetically Re-coded Organisms developed to depend on synthetic amino acids - Genetic Engineering Blog

Genetically Re-coded Organisms developed to depend on synthetic amino acids - Genetic Engineering Blog | Genetic Engineering | Scoop.it
Two Researchers rewrites Science with Genetically Recoded Organisms using extreme gene-manipulation tools providing a Genetic Firewall for very first time.
Sudharsan Varatharajan's insight:

Sometimes life makes us astound by its capability and it would seem alien to Life on Earth ... But still Humans manage to unlock certain aspects of life untouched even by God ! One among them are ' Genetically Recoded Organisms' that shook the entire genomic World.

"So this really makes it a completely new branch of life," Church says, “We now have the first example of genome-scale engineering rather than gene editing or genome copying. This is the most radically altered genome to date in terms of genome function. We have not only a new code, but also a new amino acid, and the organism is totally dependent on it.”

Thank You my dear Ashmi akka for the pain you took in explaining me the mechanism.

Research: 'Bubble boy' finally finds a complete cure by stem cells - Genetic Engineering Blog

Research: 'Bubble boy' finally finds a complete cure by stem cells - Genetic Engineering Blog | Genetic Engineering | Scoop.it
Dr. Donald Kohn, developed a gene therapy from stem cells that cures SCID. Game-changing stem cell treatment to be tested for sickle cell disease next.
Sudharsan Varatharajan's insight:

It was just an year ago when I was in school all these terms threatened me, not just because they are deadly and lethal but I had to study all of these strange terms for my exams.

Dr. Donald Kohn, a renowned stem cell researcher and member of the UCLA developed a historical stem-cell gene therapy cure for children born with a life-threatening condition ADA-deficient SCID.

Since 2009, Kohn and his team tested this gene therapy on over 18 children with SCID, and all 18 were cured.

Sudharsan Varatharajan's insight:

Here comes a new hope for the Brain Cancer .. Researchers at Harvard Medical School under the team led by neuroscientist Khalid Shah have created genetically modified stem cells that release deadly toxin killing brain tumors.

The researchers believe that this is going to be "the future" of cancer treatment.

"Cells can do so much. This is the way the future is going to be."

Research: GABA reverses Type-I diabetes in Human cells - A promise to treat Diabetes - Genetic Engineering Blog

Research: GABA reverses Type-I diabetes in Human cells - A promise to treat Diabetes - Genetic Engineering Blog | Genetic Engineering | Scoop.it
GABA has the same diabetes-reversing effect on the human cells that it did in the mice from the previous study, says researchers of Keenan Research Centre.
Sudharsan Varatharajan's insight:

I often wonder why there are so many clinics specially for diabetes and people undertake a lot of medications. When I say lot, it means a whole lot. So many rules in their life that they have to follow, right from early morning walks to night insulin injections. Most of my family elders are affected by this so-called inherited disease, and that often leaves me stunned. “ You grandparents have sugar (that’s how they call diabetes in our locality, but still don’t know whether it is the right way to name it), then you probably will get it sooner or later,” advises my relatives right at this age of mine. In addition to this they say ‘No Cure’ for Diabetes, which worsens my fear never before. It was then I came across this astounding research by the people of Keenan Research Centre for Biomedical Sciences at St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto, Canada.

Hydrogen bombs can destroy whole planets, but this is a technology that can create planets. This is the greatest human achievement of all time — the ability to read and write life, because that’s who we are.”

The 31 year old CEO answers boldly, “We print life. Life is very simple, it’s just code. Four letters — we print that.”

You dont choose your Love ... Its your DNA - Genetic Engineering Blog | Genetic Engineering | Scoop.it
Sometimes things may go beyond one's expectations, and so in finding one's Love.Genetics have answered a lot more answers, and this one is challenging.
Sudharsan Varatharajan's insight:

Wish my all dear one's a very Happy Valentine's Day ...
Human body contains millions of genes and finding genes that are responsible for complicated behaviour like sexual attractions, emotions and intellect are very challenging.

So what next? If my parents had a love marriage, is there a higher chance of me fall in love? My dad is short-tempered and so I. Any common genes that affect our emotional trait?

Research: The mystery behind Left-handedness ? Is it the genes responsible ? - Genetic Engineering Blog

Research: The mystery behind Left-handedness ? Is it the genes responsible ? - Genetic Engineering Blog | Genetic Engineering | Scoop.it
Left-handedness is inherited? Or it is the genes that cause it? For odd reasons left-handedness is more common in men than in women. The mystery persists.
Sudharsan Varatharajan's insight:

I always wonder why some people use their left-hand to write and I still use my right-hand how so ever I try to practice writing with my left. Then, later on I noticed some left-handed people who not just write with their dominance (left-hand), but use it to throw and pick things. I was still astonished when they use their left-hand to drive the car. Was it a birth defect? Or Inherited?

On average, nine out of every 10 humans are right-hand dominant, so why are the remaining 10 percent of mankind left to deal with left? For odd reasons left-handedness is more common in men than in women. So what defines our handedness? And why is being left-handed less common?
