Rise in property prices and living costs. Singapore wil become a steadily greying society, losing vitality and verve if we do not grow our population. Our national identity and sense of belonging will be weakened. Singaporeans are crowded out of their own home.
I agree that there will be rising property prices and living costs. When more foreign workers and immigrants come to Singapore, prices will drastically rise due to increased demand. This means that singaporeans have to pay more to own a house. Thus, many would not be able to afford one.
I agree that we will be "crowded out of our own home". Right now, we are facing traffic congestions and it we are to have more people, it will worsen the situation further. Houses are made smaller these days to accommodate more people on the same piece of land. With a larger population, it will mean that we have to stay in even smaller houses. Although there may be economic growth with the foreign workers and immigrants, our quality of life will be worsened due to inflation (since there will be a higher demand with the significantly larger population).
Worsened quality of life
Hike in food prices, property, services and transportation prices
Social problems (being unable to accept the foreign workers way of life)
