FTC looking into Facebook privacy policy

FTC looking into Facebook privacy policy | General News N Updates | Scoop.it

After a storm of negative comments from users, the Federal Trade Commission has begun an inquiry into Facebook’s latest privacy policies.

Techno Geek silhoutte's insight:

The Federal Trade Commission said on Wednesday that it had begun an inquiry into whether the social network’s proposed new privacy policies, unveiled two weeks ago, violated a 2011 agreement with regulators. Under that agreement, the social network is required to get the explicit consent of its users before exposing their private information to new audiences.

Facebook’s new policies make clear that users are required to grant the company wide permission to use their personal information in advertising as a condition of using the service.

Facebook says the language was in part required by a federal court. In August, a judge approved some of the wording as part of a settlement in a class-action suit brought by users upset at seeing their names and photos used to endorse products in Facebook ads sent to their friends.

Top health industry issues of 2014

Implications of integrating technology:

Under increasing pressure to keep costs down, providers should promote technologies that help manage patients’ health outside of costly care settings.

Shouldering more of their medical costs, health-conscious consumers may be more willing to pay for mobile and other technologies to help manage their health.

Drug and device companies must understand consumer behavior and satisfaction in the social media era.

Reimbursing non-traditional, mobile-enabled therapies may allow insurers to reduce medical costs.

Yahoo’s 30 days of change starts, a new Yahoo! Logo coming next month and that’s not all

Yahoo’s 30 days of change starts, a new Yahoo! Logo coming next month and that’s not all | General News N Updates | Scoop.it
Well, we all know, Yahoo! has been trying to keep up the good work but, it’s been lot difficult for this internet giant in the past few years and we aren’t talking about the revenue here.

Techno Geek silhoutte's insight:

Well, we all know, Yahoo! has been trying to keep up the good work but, it’s been lot difficult for this internet giant in the past few years and we aren’t talking about the revenue here. It’s the popularity chart but, it seems like The Yahoo Saga will be rewritten very shortly and it will start with a brand new logo. It’s 30 days of change and it has started. This is all part of Yahoo’s President and CEO, Marissa Ann Mayer’s ambitious plan to reinvent Yahoo and to inject new inspiration to this American multinational internet giant. She has been actively acquiring start-ups and small companies, as a matter of fact, since she joined Yahoo, there have been over twenty such purchases made by Yahoo, which is a significant number.

Yahoo’s Chief Marketing Officer, Kathy Savitt writes, “Today, we are happy to announce that we will be introducing a new Yahoo! logo next month.” Over the next 30 days, Yahoo! will be displaying variations of the logo on Yahoo’s homepage and throughout Yahoo’s network in the US. However, the new logo will have all the basic elements of the current logo. So, it means we won’t be missing the older one much. As per Kathy Savitt, “We also want to preserve the character that is unique to Yahoo! — fun, vibrant, and welcoming — so we’ll be keeping the color purple, our iconic exclamation point and of course the famous yodel. After all, some things never go out of style.”

It's time for Apple to treat us like adults

It's time for Apple to treat us like adults | General News N Updates | Scoop.it

The company revolutionized the smartphone with iOS, no doubt. But as iOS gets older, its users are, too, and fewer and fewer of them are first-time smartphone owners. It made sense to hold everybody’s hands when this whole idea of a computer in your pocket was new. But just as Apple will probably move from skeuomorphic design to a more abstract flat design in iOS 7, it should also trust its users a bit more and give them more control over how they want to use the operating system.

Mozilla revamps Firefox to look more like Chrome, sets release date for October | General News N Updates | Scoop.it
Mozilla is giving Firefox a major makeover, codenamed Australis. Get ready for rounded tabs, a new menu button location, and no more user-created toolbars.
Techno Geek silhoutte's insight:

Since users are no longer just browsing but accessing “sophisticate Web apps, web-based productivity tools and social networks,” as vice president of engineering Jonathan Nightingale told TechCrunch the modern Web browser needs to give users the features they need while keeping it easy to use. He asked his team to come up with a design that takes into account how users are actually using their browsers, and the result is codenamed Australis.
