Thus, when I discovered Discourse.org I knew it was deserving of some mention. Jeff Atwood and the Discourse forums team state that, “Discourse is the 100% open source, next-generation discussion platform built for the next decade of the Internet.” Discourse is suited for anyone who is looking for: a mailing list, a forum to discuss something, a chat room where you can type paragraphs. The Pros Even with Discourse being fairly new, I find it to be one of the best forums available and this is why: Beautifully designed, Refreshing and modern style, Solid functionality, Growing community, An active Discourse support team, It’s free! The Cons Every forum software has its downside, but Discourse doesn’t possess many: Built on Ruby on Rails (this will only be an issue if you possess a site built around a PHP/MySQL system), Lacking additional add ons and customizable themes for your community.
