Maddie Morris's curator insight, April 23, 2014 2:41 PM

I choose this article because it discusses the raping of women and how most men do not even realize that what they are doing is rape. This article relates to half the sky because at the end a man says "if a women does not obey, then she deserves to be punished". Saima was told be her mother in law that if she was not obeying then she should be punished.

Taylor Ferguson's curator insight, April 24, 2014 2:10 PM

I chose this article because it focuses on where women are being sexually abused mainly as a result of gender inequality in the ambient area. It went on to say that there were studies done in six countries of Asia as an example of where women are being abused. This relates to "Half the Sky" because in the excerpt it mentioned many females in third world countries that are raped and abused in other ways by men much like the study in this article but in Asia.

Taylor Ferguson's curator insight, April 28, 2014 1:55 PM

I chose this article because of the way the court shows strong opposition to women. Their decision to punish men by having them dress up as women is not only wrong of the court to do, but also just offensive to women in general. Some men mentioned in this article decided to dress up as women in retaliation to show that women should not be ashamed of themselves. In relation to "Half the Sky," some individuals can take a bad situation and spin it to make something good out of it.
