Mya Lynn's curator insight, October 23, 2013 2:57 PM

1.) Opinion- A comment under this article stated "Is the issue about sex or  marriage? Stopping child marriage is not the right direction to solving the problem. Don't get me wrong, but i'm being practical. Rather establish rules that will meet the perpetrators halfway; Encourage safe sex to avoid teenage pregnancy. Thats my suggestion. A married pregnant teen is better than a single pregnant teen." I do not agree all the way with this users opinion. I do not think a married pregnant teen is better than a single pregnant teen. ALTHOUGH, being married you will have more help with the child and all the needs but then again the young girls are only teens and being married will cause the young teenage girls stress becasue they dont know any better. They will be taken advantage of and more than likely used. We need to end child marriage. Young girls need to be supported through their own needs and they need guidance still. They should not have to worry about another human they were forced to have.

hannah's curator insight, April 28, 2014 9:41 AM
I selected this article because the picture that was under the title made me interested. When i started reading this article it made me  think about section two from “Half the Sky”. Section two relate to this article because both articles talk about sex trafficking, gender inequality, and brothels. From ‘Half the Sky”  the author says  about 12.3 million people are forced slaves at any moment . Also that many girls and women are often locked in brothels and forced to work, even sedated sometimes. This article states how the Internet is a great resourceful invention, but if used unlawfully.Like as a weapon to enslave people particularly women worldwide, as in this case of the article it is used in that way.The author feels that vulnerable people such as asylum seekers and others use the internet this way. Also that “we are living in an era where slavery has being reborn facilitated by technology”.

hannah's curator insight, April 27, 2014 10:20 PM
I found this article particulairty intersting as it shared the various ways in which human trafficing creates physical and psychological changes on its victums. This can affect up to 12.3 million people who are forced into slaves at any moment. For others it is the simple abused of girls and women that can result in them being burned , starved and locked away like dogs .(This is revealed in section 2 of Half th Sky article.) The affects of the abused may answered in questions like.Is the person disoriented or confused, or showing signs of mental or physical abuse?Does the person have bruises in various stages of healing? Is the person fearful, timid, or submissive?Does the person show signs of having been denied food, water, sleep, or medical care? While the victims are abused ,negative affects result form men spending money on alcohol and drugs and prostitutions who are available as a result of this trafficing. Negative affects result on male and females  of society , in different ways.

I choose this article because it was referring to the new and not so much the old ways. This article relates to "Half the Sky" because it showed how when they looked at graphs referring to people in higher positions and then looked at it based off of their gender they explained to the companies they needed to empower women and they were just as good as the men. A few of the companies took it to heart and actually did something about it.
