This is a tragedy, but the situation Ofc. Ambrose responded to is one that is known to be one of the most dangerous situations a police officer can respond to. I would agree with a statement made in the article, "Cyr said the family is relieved that they won't have to sit through a trial for their loved one's killer." This sums up the sentiment I believe many would feel, having to relive the tragedy over and over in hopes that the defendant gets placed in jail to live with clothes, food, and shelter all provided without them having to contribute anything. On the other hand, the fact that the defendant was a correctional officer would not have bode well for him in prison...

I think the sentence for Anderson was reasonable. Although it was his first offense, his offenses showed that he might be more dangerous in the near future if he had a lesser sentence. I think if Anderson really wanted to prove that he was sane, he would have allowed them to do a psychiatric screening. But there could have been possible ethical issues or misconduct that would have arisen if a psychiatric screening was allowed.

Generally most people like to laugh at Canada or poke fun at them because they have Royal Mounted Patrol who ride horses and wear red outfits... But good for them, this is exactly what should happen. This criminal rapes, beats, threatens, and stabs a 76 year old women in her home, then has the audacity to think his punishment is unfitting the crime. I've never visited a Canadian prison, but I hope that his cellmates treat him the same as he treated that elderly lady. The one thing that bugs me is the fact the he is already eligible for parole after seven years on a LIFE sentence.

Ok, so there are multiple parties at fault here. First off the mother is at fault for killing her son and herself, secondly her family who saw the signs and did nothing. She had already attempted suicide once, why wasn't she under supervision? Why wasn't she seeing a shrink? the family shouldn't have let her take her son out like this without supervision. This could have been avoided had the proper steps been taken. My condolences go out to the family for their loss though.

Domestic violence has been a problem for a while now. In this case, I feel that they are going too far to reporting the incident in the news. I understand Lowe was in the police force and that he was supposed to be setting an example as an authoritative figure but I don’t think putting his private matters into the media is reasonable. Police officers commit unlawful acts on the job, but I think if they are private, family matters it should not be publicized. Either way, as a police officer, Lowe should have known better than to use force on a “victim.”

To me this is just another case where the person in question should forcibly neutered, tubes tied or balls snipped. It astonish's me that people like this (who are already under investigation for the disappearance of 2 other infant) are allowed to procreate. Personally I believe that the right to procreate should be a right that can be taken away. Just watch the movie Idiocracy.

Post Partum Depression and the oppression that some women feel from their partners all contribute to these crimes. The woman hides her pregnancy and then panics after the birth.

The fact that people look at this as "reporting sin" and something that "promotes" homosexual activity is insane and looking to the extreme. There are no actions that even state this, and regardless of if it is two "dads" with their kids, and they are gay, who cares?! I still cannot wrap my head around the idea that people are so opposed to gay marriage, and people falling in love with someone of the same sex. We were all brought on this earth to enjoy life, and to do it freely. We are all entitled to love and affection, and if that means falling in love with someone of the same gender, there is no way to control that. These people are happy, they are having fun. Let them do that. And even so, its for an advertisement. Focus on what the ad is for as opposed to the actions in the ad.

Allowing victims to track a case online would be a great idea. Victims have always had little or no say in a case after reporting an incident. They don’t even know what is going on at a trial and anxiously wait for a verdict, whether or not justice was served. By allowing victims access to track a case online, would probably help with their mental state and could possibly give them the courage that they are not excluded from a case.
Rob Duke's comment, June 9, 2012 9:28 AM
This is an important step in making the CJ system more victim oriented.
