Paige Daugherty's comment, June 5, 2013 4:34 AM
I have been following this story through the media. I feel that this is absolutely ridiculous, and that the parents should have found a more appropriate way to deal with this sort of issue. Rape is something that should not be taken lightly however both of these girls where in a “relationship” and consenting. Even though both these girls are young, when you opening talk about a relationship you are having with a peer, you are clearly not raping each other. Both girls knew each other age and have equal accountably in the actions. There is no reason the older girl should be punish with lifelong consequences and the younger girl gets to walk away unscathed by the situation. I find it absolutely unfathomable that the younger girl’s parents would essentially want to ruin this girl’s life. Young girls experiment and make mistakes, sometimes with drugs, running away, or sex. I would personally have dealt with the in a much different manner, it is not fair for either of these girls to publically be embarrassed over what may be a phase, or a new life choice they were not ready to share publically. Sexual offends should be people who deserve to be labeled as such, not someone who had an innocent fling when they were in high school.
Brittany Ann Lewis's comment, June 17, 2013 3:22 PM
I think this is so terrible. There are plenty of men who get off way easier in the same situation. These two girls were peers and were in a relationship. I think the younger girls parents are more focused on the fact that this is a lesbian relationship than an age issue even though they claim that this is not the case. Rape should be taken seriously but this was not rape. The younger girl may have been 14 but they were peers and consenting. I would like to know how the parents felt before the older girl turned 18 because I think there would have been a better idea of whether they are truly against the age issue or if they are against the fact that their daughter is experimenting with women.

This is fascinating. It only makes sense that people living on such a different diet would have some biological differences. I think the fact that it goes all the way to the genetic level is very interesting. I'm looking forward to how this research continues. It it especially important for children to be diagnosed with this so their families can properly care for them until they can begin to care for themselves.
