16-year-old girl says her rape went viral: ‘I’m just angry’

16-year-old girl says her rape went viral: ‘I’m just angry’ | Gender and Crime | Scoop.it
A 16-year-old says she was drugged and raped by people she thought were her friends, and then pictures from that night went viral.
Rob Duke's insight:

You need a warrant in AK, but ALWAYS attempt a pre-text phone call with these cases.  Once they've lawyered up, they usually claim the sex act was consensual and that makes the prosecutor's team work extra hard to prove that it wasn't.  Get them on tape admitting their culpability: Victim: "Hi, um, I need a ride to the clinic, and you need to take me." Suspect: "Why do I need to take you?" Victim: "Because you raped me and caused this--would you rather I asked my mom for a ride?"  Suspect: "Uh, no--don't ask your mom--I'll get you a ride."  That is an omission--not denying the rape.  Then: Victim: "You understand that you're not off the hook for raping me just by giving me a ride?"  Suspect: "Yes, sure, we can work it out.  I'll do whatever you want...."  (now, we have an admission).  That's usually enough--I can probably get a confession from this point.  Be smart in your investigations and these crimes can usually be prosecuted.

Wow, can you say "mother of the year"? This is absolutely sad, and honestly quite disgusting. I am sure the child was absolutely confused and emotionally distraught from this incident. I went through a fairly similar incident, granted I was in my late teens and I knew my mother was not dead, but it was still shocking, sad, and an extremely emotional event. While the little girl may not have fully understood what was going, even enough to feel the full emotional toll of this horrific incident. Sad, and what a horrible excuse of a mother.

I have never really herd of, or considered, paternity leave. I feel like someone needs to win bread for the family, and the mother obviously cannot do that with a new born. I could understand the first while to spend at home with the new baby, but the time that these men are taking seems extreme. If you split 180 days between both parents equally, that is 90 days each. If you work 6 days a week even, that would be 15 weeks each , more than double what the MOTHER takes here in the US. I like the idea, but I never have, and never will, support such a socialistic type of thinking. This time frame is so extreme, and absurd, and I do not believe in something for nothing. Therefore, I think that these men are just abusing the system, and, eventually, that will bite the "system" in the butt.

While I am not sure how this relates too much into the "gender" class, I can see how this is a problem, and I can definitely see how this could, and probably already has, ended up as a discrimination case. For reasons need be untold, women will, obviously, take longer in the restroom more commonly than men will, and I do not think that that is wrong. While I understand what point the company is trying to make, there are several reasons for an employee to need to use the restroom not only for obvious reasons, but also for less obvious reasons, such as to collect oneself after a customer was rude, or after a fight with a coworker, or otherwise, an employee may need a place where they can go to just have a moment. It would be interesting to follow this case, and see where it goes.

I am sure there is plenty more to this story, but how awful! I am sure that if this is a cut and dry story of a father hugging his child, this man is extremely regretful and ashamed of what he has done. With my time spent in studying cases, though, I have learned that things are not always what they appear, and there is probably more to this story than this AP article discloses. Heartless killer? I do not think so, but something about the father's side of the story is not adding up. This would be an interesting case to look into.

I'm glad to see that the man did not get away with the crime. To force yourself onto another human being is wrong and should not be tolerated. The fact that he may now be HIV positive makes me feel that he has adequately been punished for his violent act. Now the prison sentence must match up in order to complete his sentence for the crime he committed.

This is a classic case of barriers being put up that prevent women from receiving their right to have an abortion. This is similar to what I am currently researching for my paper. Prisons are doing the same thing in order to prevent women from accessing the proper facilities in which they are to receive an abortion. Texas just seems to be doing so on a state level rather than a prison one.
