I find stories like this about “Barbie” to be just ridiculous. Almost all of the stories point to how Barbie could not survive with her proportions; well of course not she’s only six inches tall. I think people get out of hand; there are many unrealistic toys that children play with. I played with Barbie, as did many of my friends, and none of us are anorexic. I never once thought I needed to become Barbie when I grew up. I understood that I was playing pretend with a doll, nothing more. Issues about expectations are implanted in children primary by their parents, not a doll that cannot talk.

State Police quietly probed mistreatment of female recruits

State Police quietly probed mistreatment of female recruits | Gender and Crime | Scoop.it
The letter was discovered by a sergeant last November on a shared computer drive at the State Police Academy. It was an anonymous plea for help from a young trooper detailing serious accusations that male training officers were drinking with female recruits in their dorm rooms and at bars near the agency’s Albany headquarters.

The author, believed to be a newly appointed trooper, sought help from a counselor for a fellow female trooper who she said was taunted by co-workers for her affair with a training officer while attending the academy with more than 200 other recruits. The sergeant delivered the letter to Lt. Christine Baker, who oversees the academy’s Basic School.

Boan White's comment, Today, 4:48 PM
This is unbelievable, women have been allowed attend the State Police Academy for at least 30 some odd years. If one is going to be a trooper then they should accept there fellow trooper, regardless of gender, race, color, or religion. Female troopers, recruit or not, should not have to deal with sexual harassment, physical and psychological intimidation, and or rape.

Roman Polanski's victim pleads to end case: 'He owes me nothing' | Gender and Crime | Scoop.it
Roman Polanski's sexual assault victim made an impassioned plea Friday to end the fugitive director's four-decade legal saga, saying she felt more abused by the legal justice system than by the man who she said drugged, raped and sodomized her when she was 13. The trauma of the ordeal that followed was so great that, you know, the brief encounter with him that evening that was unpleasant just faded and paled, Samantha Geimer said outside a courtroom in Los Angeles Superior Court.

Drunken woman accused of biting off man’s ear

Drunken woman accused of biting off man’s ear | Gender and Crime | Scoop.it
A Fairbanks woman faces felony and misdemeanor assault charges for reportedly biting off a portion of her boyfriend’s ear while in a drunken rage early Friday morning.

According to a criminal complaint filed in Fairbanks court, the manager of Kodiak Jack’s called Fairbanks police at 2:12 a.m. and reported “a wild woman” was fighting with his brother in their apartment above the bar. When police arrived, the man told them Kinlee Lynn Hawkins was drunk and that they were going to have their “hands full,” according to the complaint.

Police entered the apartment and found the alleged victim on top of Hawkins and holding her down. The man had bite marks on his arm and shoulder, almost the entire outer portion of his ear was missing and the cartilage was sticking out, according to the complaint.

Hawkins, 32, was intoxicated and kept wandering around the room, gathering her things and asking for a ride home. She told police she and the man had dated for the past year and she found out he had been with another woman. Hawkins said she was angry with the man, so she started wrestling with him, then bit his ear off and spat it out in the room somewhere, according to the complaint.
