Over-Communicate to Be a Better Leader | Social Media Today

Over-Communicate to Be a Better Leader | Social Media Today | Gems for a Happy Family Life | Scoop.it
Back in 2006-2008, when we had office space and more than 20 professionals running around the place, the only way to get any privacy was to close my door. I had an open door policy, but there were times – HR meetings, leadership coaching, private phone calls – that required a closed door.
Angie Mc's insight:

Over-communication as described here takes into account the emotional and unreasonable needs that are very real.  Within the family, empty voids can be filled with anxiety very quickly.  Be the leader of communication in your family and help others to communicate to their best abilities.

Angie Mc's insight:

Life needs finesse, a lose grip, to ensure we don't lock into our own will at the expense of others or something better.  And, the sub-title of this makes me smile, "Happiness for people who can't stand positive thinking."  I'm after truthful thinking, myself :)

Karin Sebelin's curator insight, February 6, 2014 6:55 AM

I especially like these words in the mentioned book:

"The most valuable skill of a successful entrepreneur … isn’t “vision” or “passion” or a steadfast insistence on destroying every barrier between yourself and some prize you’re obsessed with. Rather, it’s the ability to adopt an unconventional approach to learning: an improvisational flexibility not merely about which route to take towards some predetermined objective, but also a willingness to change the destination itself. This is a flexibility that might be squelched by rigid focus on any one goal."

I think we all should be more "flexible" sometimes. We too often cling too much to plans and schemes.

John Michel's curator insight, February 1, 2014 9:26 AM

One of the hidden problems of overwork is that people often have put their entire sense of identity into the business or job. You end up working more and more because there's either not enough going on in your life or you're not recognizing its importance. Schedule time to keep yourself healthy, maintain important relationships, and follow passions that aren't related to your current venture.

Gallup surveys show that when people have positive interactions and close friends on the job, they will be significantly more engaged in their work (not to mention more productive and effective) than those who do not. Employees want to feel a sense of belonging at work--that people care about them, and that they are doing meaningful work.
