Supreme Court Rejects Gene Patent

Supreme Court Rejects Gene Patent | Geeky things that interest me | Scoop.it

Steve Klos's insight:

Genes = naturally occuring substances

Patents = inventions

The court seemed to get the right balance on this one...

Knowing how a few companies work (thinking of smaller orgs who don't actually understand how business should work), if the patent would have been allowed, they would charge individuals a yearly licensing fee to walk around with the genes as part of their genetic makeup.

On "Geek" Versus "Nerd"

On "Geek" Versus "Nerd" | Geeky things that interest me | Scoop.it
To many people, "geek" and "nerd" are synonyms, but in fact they are a little different. Consider the phrase "sports geek" — an occasional substitute for "jock" and perhaps the arch-rival of a "ner...
Steve Klos's insight:

Apparently I'm both a nerd - in that I'm driving efforts to make software more managable and a geek - in that I like technology, computers and gadgets!

Good news for parents of kids who are nerds and/or geeks - the word, "loneliness" is about as far from being either geek or nerd related as it can be!

Now - is this section on ScoopIt properly named?  Clearly, the answer is yes is since it's a collection of materials that interest me :-)!
