Studies have shown yoga to be beneficial for both physical and mental health, but the biological mechanisms for why have been poorly understood -- until now.
Tania Montoya's insight:

Having experienced first-hand the health benefits of yoga on my stress and physical strength and endurance I don't find it surprising that it may also have direct effects on gene expression. 

Keep in mind that the scale of this study is far from large enough for conclusive results, but it's an interesting glimpse of what we can learn about the underlying factors that make yoga (and other meditative activities) so beneficial.
