Rokinon 35mm T1.5 Cine vs. Canon 35mm f/1.4L via @onerivermedia | Gear in Motion | Scoop.it

Marco Solorio of OneRiver Media compares the new Rokinon 35mm T1.5 Cine prime lens ($550 street) against his tried and true Canon 35mm f/1.4L still photo lens ($1550 street) on the Blackmagic Cinema Camera. There’s no question that the Canon L lens has a long history of producing incredibly sharp and clean results on DSLR still photos. But how does each lens compare to each other when used on the Cinema Camera where only the sweet spot of the lens is actually used?

New Canon EOS 7D Mark II Rumor

New Canon EOS 7D Mark II Rumor | Gear in Motion | Scoop.it

Posted by CanonWatch on December 1, 2012

"A Far East Source told Northlight Images some new tidbits, mainly concerning the position of the the Canon EOS 7D Mark II in Canon's lineup. NL had word

[...] that the 7D Mk2 is going to be firmly aimed at the sports and nature market, with a lot of features based on feedback from ‘pro’ users. The 10 fps rate is seen as an important feature, along with many features derived from 1DX developments, particularly AF and lower light performance Sensor size would be advertised as 21MP, but faster and less noisy than the 7D (25MP was apparently seen as not offering enough image quality)."

On Set with the BBC and ARRI ALEXA (+ 5DmkIII)

On Set with the BBC and ARRI ALEXA (+ 5DmkIII) | Gear in Motion | Scoop.it

Posted by ARRI on November 13, 2012

British cinematographer Tony Coldwell recently used ARRI ALEXA cameras and ARRI/ZEISS Ultra Prime lenses on the BBC children's series WOLFBLOOD. Here below is his report:

(...) "One attribute the transformed Wolfbloods had in the show was an ability to run at superfast speeds. The producer didn't want this to be a CGI solution, so we worked through combinations of shutter angles and frame rates to achieve the effect in-camera. With the right foregrounds and various methods of transport, we worked out some very impressive solutions - sometimes shooting from the back of quad bikes, cars and rickshaws, and sometimes running with the ALEXA. By the end of the shoot my grip, Dan Inman, had designed and constructed a ZipCam style rig on wires between the trees for my Canon 5D Mark III, to get great swooping aerial shots. His next version of the rig will take an ALEXA so we can get even better pictures.

Throughout the shoot we collected frame grabs on nearly every scene and the DIT and I would explore looks with the ARRI Look Creator - sometimes for use on set but mainly to bank ideas for the grade. We generally shot in ProRes 422 (HQ), but sequences that were going to have CGI content we shot ProRes 4444."

Roger Deakins interviewed on his digital cinematography for Skyfall

Roger Deakins interviewed on his digital cinematography for Skyfall | Gear in Motion | Scoop.it

Skyfall returns to the Connery days of the James Bond franchise, where nearly every frame would drip with coolness. Martin Campbell’s Casino Royale was a step in the right direction, but it wasn’t until director Sam Mendes and cinematographer Roger Deakins showed up that the series began to feel at its most alive, cinematic, and stylish. This world of Bond is lavish and bold, and to a degree we have never seen from this series before.

SNAP of the Week: 16% on the Lilliput 665GL-70NP/HO/Y 7" Monitor

What?

Every monday we put the spotlight on a special product. The first five people who make a purchase decision get a mind-blowing discount. In exchange we ask for some pictures of the product in action. We’ll limit the availability of this product in our store to five pieces. If it says out ‘of stocks’, you know the game is over…

60 Canon DSLR 5D MKII Cameras Shoot ParaNorman 3D Animated Feature | Gear in Motion | Scoop.it
A garrison of sixty EOS 5D Mark II SLR cameras were used in the producuction of the new 3D feature film, “ParaNorman”, screening this Summer.

The production team from LAIKA animation studios, were able to make use of the cameras to capture more than 400,000 separate stop-frames needed.

The film workflow was divided amongst five camera teams and 50 separate units at LAIKA’s 151,000 square ft. studio. Each unit had its own shooting stage, sets, puppet “actors,” equipment (including Canon EOS 5D Mark II cameras), and a crew working on different portions of the film simultaneously.

Sony F55 Film ‘Dig’ is a Must-Watch Example of What the 4K Camera Can Do - NoFilmSchool | Gear in Motion | Scoop.it

While it seems like it has been all Sony around here, it's really because the news and videos have been trickling out slowly, rather than in one burst after the recent presentation. We already saw what the Sony F55 with its global shutter could do with one crew, now we’ve got the opportunity to see it in the hands of another. Dig, written/directed by Martin Scanlan and shot by Steve Lawes, premiered at the Camerimage Film Festival in Poland, and was part of the European launch for the F55. Check out the full film below.

"Sony want to be the number one sensor maker. They have said that, and they are doing something about that claim by pumping out 40 Million CMOS sensors a month. The new Sony IMX117CQT sensor has been announced and is capable of bringing 2K and 4K to the stock standard point and shoot camera and Soccer Mum camcorder. Add frame rates out the wazoo from that IMX117CQT sensor such as 240fps at 2K and 60fps at 4K ensures it’s going to be an interesting year in 2013 camera wise."
