Sony FS700 4K Recorder Support Coming in July, and Complete F5/F55 Firmware Timeline Revealed. By Joe Marine | Gear in Motion | Scoop.it

"A lawsuit from rival RED hasn’t stopped the Sony F5 and F55 cameras from shipping on-time, and now we’ve got some more concrete information about what is currently enabled and when we can expect future features to be implemented. For FS700 owners, we also have a pretty good idea of when you can expect full 4K support from Sony with their AXS-R5 recorder, which needs a separate piece, the HXR-IFR5, to interface with the camera. Click through for all of the currently supported frame rates and resolutions, and when you can expect them to be updated."

Out Now: Sony Alpha A55 Firmware Hack

Out Now: Sony Alpha A55 Firmware Hack | Gear in Motion | Scoop.it

"It’s real. Sony A55 owners rejoice, for Someone 1.00′s first hack is now available and can be downloaded from the EOSHD forum. The patcher app is able to overcome the A55 firmware encryption and is the basis for adding bitrate patches and new menu options later on. The NEX 5 patcher I also believe is coming later.

"Sony want to be the number one sensor maker. They have said that, and they are doing something about that claim by pumping out 40 Million CMOS sensors a month. The new Sony IMX117CQT sensor has been announced and is capable of bringing 2K and 4K to the stock standard point and shoot camera and Soccer Mum camcorder. Add frame rates out the wazoo from that IMX117CQT sensor such as 240fps at 2K and 60fps at 4K ensures it’s going to be an interesting year in 2013 camera wise."

Sony F3 Act II: S-Log, 4:4:4 output and more as standard equipment

Sony F3 Act II: S-Log, 4:4:4 output and more as standard equipment | Gear in Motion | Scoop.it

"Sony has refreshed the PMW-F3 Super 35mm camcorder, reconfiguring it as the PMW-F3/RGB. The last three letters signify that 10-bit 4:4:4 RGB output and 10-bit S-Log gamma—previously extra-cost options—are now standard equipment. In addition, we’ve introduced a free firmware upgrade—version 1.40, created an accessory LCD monitor hood, and launched two lenses: a PL mount zoom and an interesting FZ mount servo zoom.

The F3 attracted directors of photography through a combination of Super 35 imagery, practical workflow and accessible pricing. At the initial launch, Sony discussed a roadmap of firmware upgrades, effectively promising to make the camera even better over time. We’ve been delivering on that promise consistently.
