Natural gas obtained from shale differs little in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions when compared to other natural gas obtained through more conventional means ...

The study was piped through the Joint Institute for Strategic Energy Analysis, a consortium of five universities and the U.S. Department of Energy's NREL.

Reducing Flaring: Statoil Uses GE's New Technology

After application for the refueling stations, GE's CNG-In-A-Box new technology finds itself a 2nd market application; reducing flaring at drilling site.

In the Bakken, Statoil has partnered with GE and Ferus to develop a mobile system to capture the field gas that would be flared, convert into CNG and deliver the CNG to its drilling fleet for fuel.

UK Public Health Report On Shale Gas: Low Risk To Public Health Near Shale Gas Extraction Sites

UK Public Health Report On Shale Gas: Low Risk To Public Health Near Shale Gas Extraction Sites | Gaz de schiste au Québec - Socialement et environnementalement responsable. | Scoop.it

Public Health England has published the final version of its report.

PHE’s conclusion:

PHE has reviewed the literature on the potential public health impacts of exposures to chemical and radioactive pollutants as a result of shale gas extraction.

We conclude that the currently available evidence indicates that the potential risks to public health in the vicinity of shale gas extraction sites will be low if shale gas extraction is properly run and regulated.

Rice University: Greener Natural Gas - New Powder Captures Natural Gas CO2 At Well Head

This Black Powder Will Make Natural Gas Greener

Researchers made a cheap carbon-based powder that could transform how we clean natural gas.

A new and inexpensive powder that captures carbon dioxide (CO2) from natural gas and converts the CO2 from a gas to a solid.

With further development, the carbon-based black powder could catch carbon dioxide right at natural gas wells, providing a cost-effective and space-saving way to reduce carbon pollution. The captured CO2 could be returned to underground wells or used in industry.

Shale: Doubling Production With New Completion Design | Long Tails Is The Key. Steep Drop-Offs Not An Issue

Shale: Doubling Production With New Completion Design | Long Tails Is The Key. Steep Drop-Offs Not An Issue | Gaz de schiste au Québec - Socialement et environnementalement responsable. | Scoop.it

Continental Resources President Rick Bott on Tuesday pushed back against arguments that the U.S shale oil revolution will be short-lived, insisting that there are decades of life remaining just in North Dakota’s Bakken formation.

The hydraulically fractured Bakken wells are marked by outsize production in their first year with steep drop-offs. But Bott said critics scrutinizing “the decline rate” are focusing on “the wrong story.”

“There is a steep decline,” he acknowledged, “but then there is a very, very long tail. You get flush production, but it’s the tail you really count on.”

“We’re seeing some great results going back into areas we drilled as little as two years ago and being able to almost double production with new completion designs,”

Using technology developed by MIT professor and Siluria director Angela Belcher, the company’s oxidative coupling of methane process directly converts methane into ethylene through the use of a catalyst that doesn’t consume energy.

Ethylene, a key component of many petrochemicals, is itself a $150 billion annual business. The ethylene then can be converted to gasoline, diesel or jet fuel through Siluria’s process.
