Video: Students Shocked to Hear What Hillary Said | Gay Marriage | Scoop.it
MRCTV's Dan Joseph ventured onto the hallowed grounds of George Mason University to ask students about a comment made by Hillary Clinton.
Aaron Salvatore's insight:

Vespa, Matt. "Students Shocked to Hear What Hillary Said." May 1 2014. Video. 10 July 2014.http://cnsnews.com/mrctv-blog/matt-vespa/video-students-shocked-hear-what-hillary-said. This video is about a news reporter asking about a quote to college student and how will they react to the quote that he asked. The quote said "Marriage has got historic, religious and moral content that goes back to the beginning of time, and I think a marriage is as a marriage has always been, between a man and a woman." Majority of the students said a person whose republican, conservative, catholic, and religious. The reporter ask that if someone say something like that how would you feel? and majority of the student said that they would not like it and would not agree with it. Students were surprised when the reporter revealed that it was Hillary Clinton. No one guess that it would be democrat. But even though Hillary quote it, she explained that her personal views have shaped overtime. She agreed with any marriages and she support any times of marriage whether gay or lesbian or straight. The reason that i choose this article is because I want to prove to audience that sometimes any type of people can say stuff that are wrong and you didn't except that they would say it but those person can change over time when they realize that they spoke something that hurt another person's feeling.

Podcast: Moving Gay Marriage Forward

Podcast: Moving Gay Marriage Forward | Gay Marriage | Scoop.it
This week, the Supreme Court heard oral arguments in two cases dealing with gay marriage: the challenges to California’s Proposition 8 and the federal Defense of Marriage Act. On the Political Scene podcast, Jeffery Toobin and Margaret Talbot talk with Dorothy Wickenden about how the Court might rule in each case and what the decisions could mean for marriage equality.
Aaron Salvatore's insight:

McKnight, Matthew. "Podcast: Moving Gay Marriage Forward." n.d. The New Yorker. 28 March 2013. Web. 10 July 2014. http://www.newyorker.com/online/blogs/newsdesk/2013/03/political-scene-moving-gay-marriage-forward.html> The Podcast talk about the supreme court had argument in two same sex marriage case. The court started an argument with 14th amendment that was adopted in 1791 and 1868. Later, the court examine the federal defense of marriage act. Also lawyers discuss and talk about how the court might rule in each case and what the decisions could mean for marriage equality. California decided not to defend it's own law and left it to it's original proponents. The court almost bypass the issue and the citizens does not believe that the same-sex marriage exist in California in two or three years regardless what the court does. A lawyer state that the country has moved so fast that stakes in argument went down. By the arguments went down it reflected in the almost business in nature. Now California notwithstanding, marriage equality has made progress in the states. Also some republicans concerned about their popularity among young voters that began defecting to the side of same-sex marriage. The reason I choose this article is because some citizens don't know that same-sex marriage exist and also these days things in country are changing so fast.

Aaron Salvatore's insight:

NY to Recognize Same-Sex Marriage. Gov. David Paterson, 2008. Film. 8 July 2014.<http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FY9N_PwCkcY>. This video on Same-Sex marriage talked about the same-sex couples will get same opportunity as opposite-sex couples. New York Governor David Paterson claims that the state agencies must recognize same-sex marriage performed in places where they are legal in press conference on Thursday. The reason that he's legalizing the law is that he's upholding the law that are already in places even though he did not intended to do it. He gave new york state agencies June 30th deadline to make sure that they are in compliance with human rights law. The move to recognize same sex marriage will have problems and issues with such as health insurance coverage for a spouse. Also the couples will have issues with property, inheritance and adoptions rights. Even though Governor promises, the state seems to still deny the same-sex marriage licenses. One of the woman named Susan Sommer talk about that the state itself won't give permission to couples to marry. She mentioned that it's like a slap in the face to know that the state won't let the couples marry in their own state. The reason that i choose this video is because i want to show to the audience that even though someone that have high power authority said something it doesn't change the law but only citizens can and without them its powerless.

Aaron Salvatore's insight:

U.K, Gay. Northern Ireland Christian Baker Denies Gay Marriage Cake Order. 2014. thegayuk.com. n.p. Web. 8 July 2014. http://www.thegayuk.com/magazine/4574334751/Northern-Ireland-Christian-Baker-Denies-Gay-Marriage-Cake-Order/8418228. The article talks about Christian baker in Northern Ireland denies Gay Marriage cake order. The Ashers cake store refuses the cake which included a slogan "Support Gay Marriage - Queer Space born 1998" with a picture of Sesame Street characters Ernie and Bert. The reason they deny it because it's against odds of the store beliefs and with the way bible teaches. About the queer space in the cake is an organization which seeks to increase gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered LGBT community. The store is facing legal Challenge by Equality Commission and accused of discriminating the customers. It talks about that Christians are making laws imbalanced and its hard for people to live in society now days. Same sex marriage is legal in England and Wales but except Northern Ireland. The Main group that is legal supporting the bakery is Christian Institute. The Bakery is unapologetic when it comes with discrimination because of their strong beliefs inside them and they think that they made right decision by denying gay people. The reason that I chose this article is that because there are many different people living in this world with different attitude with their own beliefs they are holding on to and its affecting other people's feelings.

Oklahoma’s Ban on Gay Marriage Is Unconstitutional, Judge Rules | Gay Marriage | Scoop.it
The decision, the latest in a string of legal victories for gay rights, will not take effect immediately, and an appeal is almost certain.
Aaron Salvatore's insight:

Eckholm, Erik. "Oklahoma's Ban on Gay Marriage is Unconstitutional, Judge Rules." n.d: Pag, The New York Times, The New York TImes, 14 Jan 2014. Web. 9 July 2014.<http://www.nytimes.com/2014/01/15/us/federal-judge-rejects-oklahomas-gay-marriage-ban.html?module=Search&mabReward=relbias%3Ar%2C%7B%222%22%3A%22RI%3A16%22%7D> The article talks about the Federal Judge in Oklahoma ruled Tuesday that the state's constitutional amendment barring same-sex marriage violated the federal constitution. The reason that the state's ban on marriage by gay and lesbian is just a random choice made by one class of Oklahoma's citizen. In Tulsa deciding a case that had continued for nine years. Even though citizens want it to make legal, it will not take effect immediately. District Attorney Tim Harris of Tulsa County represents for Tulsa County Clerk because the office issues marriage licenses. The ruling comes less than a month after a federal judge in Utah reached the same conclusion, declaring that the amendment is unconstitutional. Gay rights supporters in Oklahoma will not enjoy a similar window of marriage opportunity. The number of states authorizing same sex-marriages to 17 or 18 through legislation or court order. Also New Mexico in December and New Jersey in October, state supreme court favor in same-sex marriage calling discrimination illegal under state constitutions. 11 states in U.S. such Hawaii and Illinois that same sex marriage was approved by legislatures or popular vote.

The Tax Impact of Same-Sex Marriage

The Tax Impact of Same-Sex Marriage | Gay Marriage | Scoop.it
When the Supreme Court tossed out section 3 of the Defense of Marriage Act last month in Windsor vs U.S., it gave same-sex couples an important civil rights victory.
Aaron Salvatore's insight:

Burton Amster, Mathew. "The Tax Impact of Same-Sex Marriage." 2013. Web. 8 July 2014.https://www.mint.com/blog/planning/the-tax-impact-of-same-sex-marriage-0713/. The article talks about how taxes works for same-sex couples. Last month, the Supreme Court passed out the Defense of Marriage Act in Windsor vs U.S. It gave them an important civil rights victory. It also gave benefits to navigate the complex world of federal taxes and for married couples. It also talks about that gay marriage couple must file as married on their 2013 federal tax return. Also it said that if a couple marry in one state and moved to another state that doesn't allow same-sex marriage, their filling status is unknown at this point. The reason is that because another state that a person moved to did not accept same sex marriage. But IRS considered the couple as a married couple wherever they moved another state. By IRS considering a couple as married, IRS could cheat illegally on their taxes by stating that residency whichever state marriage or non-marriage presents a lower tax bill in any given year. But IRS would never do unfair things to citizen. The reason that i chose this article is because I want to prove that people get treated equally and gay or lesbian got their civil rights victory.

The McGraw-Hill Reader Issues Across The Disciplines

Gay Marriage

Aaron Salvatore's insight:

Miller, Lisa. “Our Mutual Joy: The Religious Case for Gay Marriage”. McGraw. Hill Reader Issues Across the Disciplines. 11th Ed. Gilbert Muller. New York: McGraw Hill, 2011. 649-655 Prints. The article is about religious against gay marriages and against states. The writer itself talk about the bible have nothing to do with gay marriages. She gave examples by using characters in the bible. In the article she basically argued that the bible didn't talk about anything against gay people or gay marriages. The article also talks about that the bible only teaches people to love and to accept but not judging of what other people's weakness. She argued the whole article using bible with examples and also left out question for audience to solve. Also it talks about how marriage in America refers in two separate ways; religious and civil. She talk about religious way is that couples commitment of love before God to honor him and cherish each other according to God's will. About the civil way is that taxes, health care, and inheritance that people are getting all should be given and taking equally. Before she make an argument in the article, she always uses it with a biblical prove and also it said that the bible is powerful, living document and been around more than 2,000 years. The bible speaks truth to people as we changed through history. The reason that I choose this article is because it's interesting and talk about stuff I have never read before and also the writer itself made argument through an article with bible.
