Favorite gardening apps | Gardening | Scoop.it

In an attempt to learn more about gardening in general, I have recently explored a few apps on my iPhone. I have 6 gardening apps right now, but I only really use two. I am sure I will find more in future searches.

Richard, I use a lot of weed identification apps. (I like to know their names and what I'm up against!) I don't have a favorite (not yet, anyway) as I haven't found the "perfect" one. I'll be writing a post this month about them on Leafport.com. If you have a favorite, esp. if it isn't in my database, let me know. :-)

Richard Spencer's insight:

After  reading  this  article  from   CTV.It   seems to  me   to  be  that  this new technology is taking  out  the  fun  and  all  the  guess work  out  of  gardening.  with  that  our  brain  gets  lazy.

Maybe  its a  way  forward  but  is  it  a  step  back

There's really no substitute for getting out there and examining, caring, etc. for your plants yourself. Hopefully these apps will be used as tools and not substitutes for the real thing...
Richard Spencer's comment, June 2, 3:51 AM
From my experience the best way forward is to combine both - ie your kowledge and know how with high tech. I recall a tv show some while back ( at the dawn of the GPS where a orienteer used both methods to get to the finishing point .
Richard Spencer's comment, June 2, 3:55 AM
continued ... He first used the gps that took him only a few feet from the finishing line then he used both map and gps to get him there ... even the satnavs have their weakness when new roads are built or developments are built

Richard Spencer's insight:
Thanks to @leafport.com providing Me with info for this New app. It looks really good the only thing I have against these apps & its technical issue is that they do take up a lot of memory space which I found out at my cost with My Samsung galaxy young which now can't update cause google play services has no memory space left

Richard Spencer's insight:

Perdue Uninversity is  a  well  facility  for  Pest  and  disease  control  in  the  States.

Therefore  most  of  the  the  plant  sysmptoms  are  american  related & there  fore  not  any  use  in  other  countries.

But  if  the  same  is  applied  across  the  world  this  would  be  a  very  beneficial app  indeed for  professionals
