Gamificação (ou, em inglês, gamification) tornou-se uma das apostas da educação no século 21. O termo complicado significa simplesmente usar elementos dos jogos de forma a engajar pessoas para atingir um objetivo. Na educação, o potencial da gamificação é imenso: ela funciona para despertar interesse, aumentar a participação, desenvolver criatividade e autonomia, promover diálogo e resolver situações-problema.
Para fazer uso da gamificação, portanto, não é preciso usar jogos prontos – apesar de eles serem uma das possibilidades. Jogos como Minecraft – em que os jogadores precisam encontrar recursos, construir estruturas e plantar para sobreviver – tornaram-se populares não apenas entre crianças e adolescentes, mas entre educadores. Tanto que uma versão especial foi lançada, o MinecraftEDU, que já é utilizado por quase mil escolas em mais de 40 países.
