Over the school holidays I have been playing around with an app called Aurasma, in the hope of creating an activity for reading groups to enhance our vocabulary studies. We already do a number of activities with iPads that enhance explicit vocabulary instruction, but this is going to be different. I think this activity is going to blow the kids away, and I’m so looking forward to seeing their faces when they use it for the first time.
QR (Quick Response) codes can make classrooms more efficient and interactive. Instead of typing in a web address, a student can open an app and point his or her device’s camera at the code and walk away with a website, audio, or video open in his or her web browser. QR codes store information in an image made up of tiny squares, and anyone can create them.

"This week I’ve been getting excited about using Kahoot in the classroom. Kahoot delivers online quizzes and surveys to your students.
It works very similar to the more well-known Socrative. The teacher displays the question and the answers on the beamer or tv in the front of the classroom. The students see the corresponding icon and color on their screen. They have 30 seconds to answer on their devices and get points for every question they answer right. The quicker they answer the more points they receive. After each question the top 5 students are shown on the board with their scores. This is where it gets exciting. The students love this immediate feedback and want to get to the top position. I have never seen students so focused on answering the questions correctly."
Updates to Acrobat, Reader, Flash Player and Illustrator are for critical vulnerabilities and will be available today.
Adobe has issued a series of updates to address a large number of vulnerabilities in their products. All updated products have at least one critical vulnerability.
The update to Adobe Acrobat and Reader fixes 11 vulnerabilities in the Windows and Mac products. The update to Flash Player fixes five vulnerabilities in all versions of the product: Windows, Mac and Linux, including the versions embedded in Google Chrome and Internet Explorer.
The Illustrator update addresses a single vulnerability in the Windows and Mac products.

So just how do you learn to get into the flow in your classroom? The ever-lovely Mia MacMeekin made this handy graphic after watching a TED talk by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi and reading his book. I haven’t read the book, but the TED talk is really inspiring. It is not specifically geared towards teaching or education, but talks about how to find fulfillment and happiness through immersion in activities – which he calls ‘flow’.
