I like this "framework" to create gamification particularly Chou's 8 Core Drives:

1) Epic Meaning and Calling

2) Development and Accomplishment

3) Expression of Creativity and Feedback

4) Ownership and Possession

5) Social Pressure and Envy

6) Scarcity and Impatience

7) Curiosity and Unpredictability

8) Loss and Avoidance

GREAT post on the HOW TOs of #gamification.

Cool and helpful work from one of gamification's pioneers

How Gamification Reshapes Corporate Training

How Gamification Reshapes Corporate Training | Games & E-Learning | Scoop.it

"Deloitte Leadership Academy focuses on leadership training classes such as managing change, leading teams and managing complex situations. Because the target group for these classes have schedules with little time to spare, the classes needed to be designed to be quick and easy to take, says Frank Farrall, lead partner at Deloitte Digital. "[The classes are] meant to be [something] you can digest in 10 minutes to an hour while you are on the move," he says."

Martin (Marty) Smith's curator insight, February 11, 2013 7:18 PM

There is nothing better to create engagement over time than gamification. Since training is, by definition, broken into a series of connected steps gamification can help create the kind of commitment over time needed. Adults also feel better about achieving levels or badges instead of "taking tests" (lol).

Ryan McDonough's curator insight, July 7, 2014 8:19 AM

Self explanatory visual on the benefits of gaming as a means of learning. Outlined are the rewards, mastery, engagement, intensity, exercise, readiness, and competitiveness. These types of graphics need to be displayed in the classroom. There's always parents who are unsure of how gaming qualifies as teaching. Can't they just sit their kid in front of an iPad all day at home? Well, in the appropriate setting, with the right direction and guidance, games are certainly good for learning. Some people just don't know that from experience yet.

Game Mechanics in Gamification | Business 2 Community

Game Mechanics in Gamification | Business 2 Community | Games & E-Learning | Scoop.it

One of the main things that I have found whilst research and writing about Gamification, is that the terms and the language we use don’t always seem to fit what were actually doing. As gamification matures, so to should the language that we use to discuss it. One term that seems to get particularly abused, which we have borrowed from game design, is Game Mechanics. This all came from various discussions I had been having with people in the games industry.  All of them told me that they felt that most people in gamificationare getting this (and more) wrong.

What are Game Mechanics?

To understand why this might be let’s first take a look at what came mechanics are. The following are quotes taken from various well known game design books and papers.
