(You can probably pick up a second hand copy for around £10 in one of the game shops in Cambridge.) It includes Portal - added as an afterthought, but which ended up becoming incredibly successful in its own right. It also includes Half Life 2, which is very impressive, although there's a lot more shooting / violence. It does a very good of conveying a broken society under occupation by a hostile force, and it feels more like a place I've visited than a game I've played. It was also one of the first games to create a compelling computer-controlled character, one you actually become emotionally invested in. Typically up to this point computer controlled characters generally follow you around and get in the way, often stopping and staring blankly at nothing in particular.

Rain (not to be confused with Heavy Rain) - appropriately for Halloween, it's a ghost story involving two invisible children finding each other in a near empty rain soaked Paris. Beautiful score, and it does some very clever things with incorporating fragments of a narrative poem into the environment.
