SAPVoice: Can Unemployment Be Eradicated By Rethinking Jobs?

SAPVoice: Can Unemployment Be Eradicated By Rethinking Jobs? | Futurewaves | Scoop.it

With U.S unemployment still near 7 percent,  jobs and the economy are top of mind for many of us. Despite all the effort and money pumped into creating jobs, the consensus is that results have been mediocre at best. But what if part of the the issue behind sustained unemployment lies in the traditional lens we use when we define jobs? What if a ‘job’ as we know it looks (and will look) completely different than what it was a couple of decades ago? Could defining jobs differently potentially take a big bite out of unemployment? The answer to that  may actually lie in the crowd.

Trudy Raymakers's insight:

I think the rethinking of Jobs is certainly a big part of the solution to unemployment as this excellent  article  says. But also necessary is rethinking society. for example a "base  salary" - don't know what it is called in English- for all. That mothers can "mother'/ fathers "father"  and get a salary (it's after all one of the most important 'jobs" in society); that children can take care for their parents when necessary and get a salary. That public jobs are divided equally and all relevent jobs in caring, for people, the neighbourhood, what's now done voluntary (more and more in Europe) get paid.

9 Economic Trends to Watch in 2014 | Futurewaves | Scoop.it

Predicting trends is no easy task, especially in the short term. Most people who can do it accurately in the world of economics and finance are millionaires, or they should be. But if you don't have a crystal ball, at least you can watch some short-term trends with long-term implications. Here are eight of my favorites for the coming year -- and beyond. -

1. East Asia's declining share of world output

2. Eurozone inflation worries

3. Slugging U.S. service sector productivity

4. The costs of America's staggering wealth inequality

5. Oil, oil everywhere

6. Buy Japan

7. The price of rice

8. China's shadow-banking housing bubble
