Why 2016 Will Be The Year Of Mass Wearables Adoption

Why 2016 Will Be The Year Of Mass Wearables Adoption | Futurewaves | Scoop.it

In the last 12 months, wearables have been a constant topic of conversation. The reaction has been mixed with some early adopters smugly telling anyone who listens that they were right and others—even the biggest fanboys—hedging their bets. According to Forrester Research, one in five U.S. adults either owns or has used a wearable and the market is poised to be one of the big tech earners of 2016.In 2014, only 10% of American adults admitted to having a wearable device. The Apple Watch was still a in production (announced in September 2014) and Fitbit was the poster child for a new wearable generation, but wearables were being hyped as the device that would break out in a big way in 2015.

Wearables will continue to grow...They will continue to be left behind as well for all the reasons we know...although the net result will be up. Let's watch and see.
Christophe Chambet-Falquet's curator insight, December 18, 2015 10:32 AM

This kind of article should be stored and reviewed in 2021.

Reading these lines, It seems that customer engagement is evident. After the fist wave of adoption, the key driver will be : what's my personal benefit compared to the drawbacks of wearing this wearable all day (and even night) long.

It will be the right moment to note that virtual data benefits does not fit the physical convenience drawbacks.

And then we will talk some more about customer engagement !

Many of Our Major Cities Will Be Submerged: Climate-Change Horrors (VIDEO)

Many of Our Major Cities Will Be Submerged: Climate-Change Horrors (VIDEO) | Futurewaves | Scoop.it

There is a new film from Oscar-winner Charles Ferguson entitled "Time to Choose..

"I don't think most citizens in the world have really grasped what is happening -- and what these risks are," says Dr. Steven Chu, former U.S. Secretary of Energy, in a clip from the latest film by Ferguson. "Many of our major cities will be submerged."
Ferguson's new documentary examines the climate-change crisis, and plainly proffers some stark realities of rising global temperatures. If the Greenland ice sheets melt, the film notes, sea levels will rise 23 feet, threatening New York, Shanghai, Mumbai, Istanbul and every other coastal city on the planet.

THE INTERNET OF THINGS 2015 REPORT: Examining how the IoT will affect the world

THE INTERNET OF THINGS 2015 REPORT: Examining how the IoT will affect the world | Futurewaves | Scoop.it

he Internet of Things (IoT) has been called the next Industrial Revolution — it will change the way all businesses, governments, and consumers interact with the physical world.

For more than two years, BI Intelligence has closely tracked the growth of the IoT. Specifically, we've analyzed how the IoT ecosystem enables entities (i.e. consumers, businesses, and governments) to connect to, and control, their IoT devices in 16 environments, including manufacturing, the connected home, transportation, and agriculture.

In a new report from BI Intelligence, we discuss all of the components of the IoT ecosystem, including its devices, analytics, networks, and security. We also provide estimates and forecasts on the burgeoning IoT market, including device growth, amount invested, and potential return on investment.

Here are some key points from the report:

1. In total, we project there will be 34 billion devices connected to the internet by 2020, up from 10 billion in 2015. IoT devices will account for 24 billion, while traditional computing devices (e.g. smartphones, tablets, smartwatches, etc.) will comprise 10 billion.
2. Nearly $6 trillion will be spent on IoT solutions over the next five years.

This is Your Life in 10 Years Time — Medium

This is Your Life in 10 Years Time — Medium | Futurewaves | Scoop.it
It's happening. All around us people are slowly (or sometimes quickly) transitioning into the future of work. The future of your work. Your job. Your life.
The full-time job (9 to 5, traditional career, etc.) is about to become a rarity; only available to a select group of people who represent the core of an organization, or who possess a very specific skill set. Why?
Because we live in a society increasingly shaped by tech. Automation will take over many of the tasks previously assigned to people. And the youth of today (and tomorrow) will have no problem transitioning into that situation. Already used to juggling flexible hours at the two or more jobs they're working, the school or university they're studying and the intense social schedules they're following; their entire lives are formed by on-demand.

6 technology mega-trends shaping the future of society

6 technology mega-trends shaping the future of society | Futurewaves | Scoop.it

These trends will greatly impact how individual lives are lived, how business is conducted, how groups of people function, and how we govern.

The technology-enabled shifts enumerated in the report, at their core, are fundamentally providing two things: (1) digital connectivity for everyone to everything, anywhere and at anytime; and (2) the tools for analyzing and using digital data in new ways. The report groups the 21 shifts discussed into six “mega-trend” categories:

People and the internet – people’s association and interaction with the web as a mental, social and physical extension of themselvesComputing, communications and storage everywhere – the ability to interface with digital technology, data and the web anywhere, anytime on any deviceThe “Internet of Things” – the digital linking of inanimate objects, or, as my colleague Chris Rezendes so nicely puts it, “the instrumentation of the physical world”Artificial intelligence and big data – the ability to access and analyze vast and disparate data, along with the ability for computers to make decisions based on this dataThe sharing economy and distributed trust – digitally-enabled transparency and trust mechanisms that allow direct exchange of goods, services or money between parties outside of traditional establishments such as stores and banksThe digitization of matter – 3D-printing and the creating of physical materials on the spot (personalized or on a small scale) based on digitally transmitted parameters

Some of the potential uses for Bitcoin's core innovation: the blockchain

Some of the potential uses for Bitcoin's core innovation: the blockchain | Futurewaves | Scoop.it

Blockchains are a way of storing information (transactions, in Bitcoin’s case) in a distributed way: sharing it between many parties, thus doing away with the need for a trusted central server.

The blockchain can only be updated with the consent of the majority of participants and, once entered, information can never be erased, meaning it can provide a definite, verifiable record of ‘digital events’.

The Doomsday Invention BY RAFFI KHATCHADOURIAN

The Doomsday Invention BY RAFFI KHATCHADOURIAN | Futurewaves | Scoop.it

Will artificial intelligence bring us utopia or destruction? Last year, a curious nonfiction book became a Times best-seller: a dense meditation on artificial intelligence by the philosopher Nick Bostrom, who holds an appointment at Oxford. Titled “Superintelligence: Paths, Dangers, Strategies,” it argues that true artificial intelligence, if it is realized, might pose a danger that exceeds every previous threat from technology—even nuclear weapons—and that if its development is not managed carefully humanity risks engineering its own extinction. Central to this concern is the prospect of an “intelligence explosion,” a speculative event in which an A.I. gains the ability to improve itself, and in short order exceeds the intellectual potential of the human brain by many orders of magnitude.
