"As for why that matters, “I believe with all my heart that the true power of the future of education is blended,” Sperry continued, “where kids come into school some of the day, part of the day, some of the week, but some of it is also delivered electronically. There may be whole classes that are electronic. There may be pieces of classes that are. But that’s where I see the future of education.”
As for online education, there may be the occasional pilot project from Canadian universities, but no one seems ready to confront the emerging reality of competition from top tier schools from around the world offering online courses at low cost to Canadian students. In fact, many schools seem stuck in their traditional model, complete with restrictive licensing agreements that are likely to slow the technology transition. The education future may be here, but few Canadian universities have woken up to its implications.
We continue to demand more of education and support it less. This story is being retold in states around the country... certainly in our state (Colorado)
