The Flying Cars Are Coming … To the New York Auto Show | FutureChronicles | Scoop.it

There’s a flying car coming to the New York International Auto Show this week.

wheels and turn signals. Over the past few years the Massachusetts company has
called its creation a “roadable aircraft” and lately, a “street legal airplane.”

The Supersonic Jet of the Future Will Be a Biplane

The Supersonic Jet of the Future Will Be a Biplane | FutureChronicles | Scoop.it

When supersonic travel inevitably returns to the skies, the airplanes are going to look a lot different. At least one design harks back to the early days of aviation with a biplane design, rather than a sleek delta-winged jet like the Concorde. This shape can apparently produce much less drag and therefore much less noise at supersonic speeds, MIT engineers say.

Microsoft's 'Universal Translator' Lets You Speak Foreign Languages In Your Own Voice | FutureChronicles | Scoop.it

Siri’s ability to speak and recognize various languages is impressive, but Microsoft is not to be outdone. Microsoft Research labs has demoed a new prototype software that could be the next big step toward a so-called “universal translator” device, one that can instantly flip one language into another and back again so a conversation can be carried on between two people even when neither can understand the other’s language.

Physical, Virtual Worlds Converge - Microsoft Research

Physical, Virtual Worlds Converge - Microsoft Research | FutureChronicles | Scoop.it

When a corporate research organization has nine locations worldwide, with
more than 850 researchers exploring more than 60 areas of computer science, how
does it share innovations effectively with product groups?

At Microsoft Research, technology transfer is a priority. It occurs through
formal mechanisms such as a dedicated technology-transfer team, product
incubations, and intellectual-property licensing, as well as through informal
relationships that nurture collaboration between research and product teams.

Then there’s Microsoft Research’s annual TechFest,
a three-day event that has been described by the Seattle Times as “a science
fair on steroids.” Think booths with demos run by computer-science Ph.D.s and
aisles full of representatives of Microsoft product teams hungry for new
technologies.

Hydrogen Storage System This diagram shows the new catalyst in its protonated and deprotonated states. It converts hydrogen and CO2 gas to and from liquid formate or formic acid at ambient temperature and pressure.
