Do you remember that scene in The Graduate when Dustin Hoffman is talking to a friend's father, a salesman. "I just want to say one word to you. Just one word," he tells Hoffman. "Plastics." That quote came back to me last week when I attended a Corning-sponsored symposium at the Computer History Museum in Silicon Valley about glass.
