Samsung Livestreamed The Birth Of a Child In VR

Christian Murray's curator insight, March 16, 7:38 AM

As news reports cry out that we must turn off our TV and take our children  for walks there seems to be some sort of conflict  with VR and cutting the technological umbilical cord we are tied to. As you may or not know i gave over  20 years of my life to VR and  360 video development  as i stand a bit back i see where  we  create a conflict  against natural state of mind. Do not get me wrong i think that if you could  virtually witness your child being born as you were not close by that is pretty cool, but what does VR  do for  people that are homeless, cloth less  and starving? Maybe it offers  the 1%  a remote observation to better assign resources? maybe but i doubt it. Its pretty clear that immersive media is being geared as  money maker not a  public resource. Now that is fair enough too, everyone has to make a buck,  but i would like to see someone  pick up my VR PORTAL plan and  make something useful and cheap for the world.

New Gloves Could Let You Feel In Virtual Reality

New Gloves Could Let You Feel In Virtual Reality | Future Trends and Advances In Education and Technology | Scoop.it
Gaming might be about to become a lot more hands on. With most major gaming companies focusing on the sights and sounds of virtual reality (VR), a group of mechanical engineering students at Rice University have instead turned their attention to touch. They’ve managed to produce a prototype VR glove that makes it seem like you’re actually feeling objects in the game.

developed at Rice University, these gloves let you touch while in virtual reality.  Apparently is is an adjustment in pressure that lets the person feel as though they are interacting with an object in virtual reality.  This could be great for history classes because when it comes to history, the possiblities in VR is essentially limitless.

How Corning Is Ushering in the 'Glass Age' - PC Mag

How Corning Is Ushering in the 'Glass Age' - PC Mag | Future Trends and Advances In Education and Technology | Scoop.it
Do you remember that scene in The Graduate when Dustin Hoffman is talking to a friend's father, a salesman. "I just want to say one word to you. Just one word," he tells Hoffman. "Plastics." That quote came back to me last week when I attended a Corning-sponsored symposium at the Computer History Museum in Silicon Valley about glass. A clip they showed (below) made me think that if The Graduate was made today, that salesman might have urged Hoffman to get into glass instead of plastics. This short video looks back in history and details the various ages when materials and technology became important to mankind's progress. From the Stone Age to the Space Age, the clip shows how these various times in history defined the role technology has played in creating the world we have today. The video ends by suggesting that we are now in the Glass Age, given the role that glass plays in so many buildings, automobiles, computers, smartphones, and thousands of other applications around the wor....
