Re-imagining the Big Picture

Understanding the interconnected problems facing humanity often requires seeing the world in a new way. David McConville, President of the Buckminster Fuller Institute, explores how questioning the outdated assumptions underlying "business as usual" approaches is the first step in designing for a resilient future.

This was the opening keynote from SOCAP: Designing the Future, held in Malmö, Sweden from May 8-10, 2012.

Design Science

Design Science | Future of Sustainability | Scoop.it

Comprehensive, anticipatory science is problem-solving approached defined by R. Buckminster Fuller as “the effective application of the principles of science to the conscious design of our total environment in order to help make the Earth’s finite resources meet the needs of all of humanity without disrupting the ecological processes of the planet.”

SFMOMA To Host Bucky Fuller Exhibit

SFMOMA To Host Bucky Fuller Exhibit | Future of Sustainability | Scoop.it

The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) has announced the upcoming debut of a new exhibition on the work of engineer, architect, and all-around design polymath Buckminster Fuller. Set to open March 31, “The Utopian Impulse: Buckminster Fuller and the Bay Area” will feature various highlights from Bucky’s nearly eight-decade career, including such crowd favorites as his Dymaxion car and 4d House. More intriguingly, perhaps, the show will also explore Fuller’s unique influence on designers and thinkers in and around the Bay Area.

Design Revolutionary: Buckminster Fuller at SFMOMA

Design Revolutionary: Buckminster Fuller at SFMOMA | Future of Sustainability | Scoop.it

There's really no good single word to describe Buckminster Fuller. He was an architect, an engineer, an author, a designer, a philosopher and more. Considered one of the last great American inventors, Fuller is credited with influencing many concepts in modern architecture — such as prefabricated housing, ecofriendly materials and living in a smaller footprint.
