Joint Libraries: Models That Work

Joint Libraries: Models That Work | Future of School Libraries | Scoop.it

A public/community college joint-use library is an especially good combination. The missions and the service populations are similar enough to provide significant overlap and allow for excellent services to all users.

How To Create An App Library

How To Create An App Library | Future of School Libraries | Scoop.it

"Apps and books are more similar than they might seem. They each diffuse content, provide access to expertise, and allow the cataloging and consolidation of knowledge into accessible forms for learners to study. And while there are important differences—apps can be constantly refreshed new information, while a book is what it is the moment it is published—there are some lessons to be learned with how we collect and categorize books."

Intetesting idea. UT-Brownsville just launced a 1-to-1 iPad pilot project. App Libraries may be a good way to distribute apps to all members of a program.

Roxie Miller's curator insight, February 26, 10:52 AM

Perhaps this will be useful to our 'iPad'ers.

4 Tips For Transitioning Your Classroom To Digital Media

4 Tips For Transitioning Your Classroom To Digital Media | Future of School Libraries | Scoop.it

"For years you’ve taught with physical texts. You may have watched used film, downloaded the occasional computer program, and even brought students up to the smartboard for some dragging and dropping, but for the most part, your classroom has been centered around physical media. Books. Paper. Charts. Rulers. Posterboard. Maybe some magazines, newspapers, and even some pamphlets when you were feeling a little crazy and out of control."

Allan Carrington's comment, March 5, 11:34 PM
THE PADAGOGY WHEEL: Thanks Kim for reposting this. I thought some might find my 1.57 min video thought provoking. In it I introduce this wheel and more research I am working on with graduate attributes, Please visit http://tinyurl.com/padwheelvid which will be redirected to YouTube. I am calling the method the CAMERA Method .. "Capabilities and Attributes Mapping for Educational Results inspiring Achievement" ... it's all about the students being all they can be. It is about mapping everything back to graduate attributes, values and capabilities These are more than learning outcomes, they are an attempt to define a graduate.

Also some might be interested in the podcast episode I did with Prof Geoff Scott of the Uni of Western Sydney. He has done years of research into graduate capabilities (aka values or attributes) It is fascinating stuff in the context of Technology Enhanced Learning and Teaching. This is what the respective industries in the market place want in graduates. Duh! Look at the list and ask yourself are they being developed in students from Higher Education or in Education in general ... this is why mapping is so important. Are we equipping graduates to excel and make a difference .... hmmm! Have a look and listen to http://tinyurl.com/alsltblog. "If you exercise these capabilities ... you will be employed!" This sort of stuff makes the CAMERA method worth developing. Comments are invited ... regards Allan.

Transitions to Digital Media | Are school libraries on the way out?

Transitions to Digital Media | Are school libraries on the way out? | Future of School Libraries | Scoop.it
So is this the beginning of the end for school libraries? Not by a long shot, says Susan Ballard, president of the American Association of School Librarians (AASL). Enlightened administrators realize that school librarians still play a pivotal role for students, guiding them through search processes and helping them find appropriate, reliable, vetted resources in print and digital format for research and other classroom projects.

This is an excellent article, which lays out the groundrules for using, or citing someone else's content.

Patrick Wohlmut's curator insight, February 24, 3:32 PM

Citing sources on a content curation page is important, not only for enhancing your creditability and being a mindful, respectful Internet community member, but also to let people know the kind of information to which they are linking.
