Marketers: How Much Will These Consumer Trends Impact You in the Next Decade?

Marketers: How Much Will These Consumer Trends Impact You in the Next Decade? | Future of Retail | Scoop.it

Trailing mobile among the most influential consumer trends are three others commonly discussed: the emergence of Millennials (see just how many there arehere); advanced marketing analytics; and demand for personalization.

While not perceived to have quite the same impact as Millennials, the aging population also figures among the top 10 consumer trends, per respondents to the survey. Emerging technologies such as virtual reality, artificial intelligence and wearables lie outside of the top 10 consumer trends, outweighed by other shifts including a focus on shopping experience and direct-to-consumer models.

To respond to these trends, marketers are taking a variety of actions, ranging from forming strategic partnerships (54%) to increasing technological capacity (51%) and engaging in dialogue with consumers (48%). That consumer dialogue is a critical focus for enterprise social business initiatives, and is also being increasingly used by CMOs to shape innovation....

From Carrefour to Nordstrom: 25 #Retailers Nailing it with their #Proximity Marketing Campaigns #beacons

From Carrefour to Nordstrom: 25 #Retailers Nailing it with their #Proximity Marketing Campaigns #beacons | Future of Retail | Scoop.it

Unacast’s latest Q4 Proxbook report confirms that beacon deployments are on track and the numbers align with ABI Research’s forecast of 400 million beacons to be deployed by 20201. Last year, we saw big brands undertaking large scale beacon deployments. And, this year started with Rite Aid’s announcement of initiating the largest beacon-deployment in a retail setting till date. Discover the top 25 proximity marketing campaigns in retail and what they are doing right.

A review on real-life beacon deployments in retail store tends to demonstrate a resurgence of proximity geographic location tracking.

WHY THIS IS IMPORTANT

Digital transformation strategies require that customers are tracked in the real world as much as they are in the web-world. This often means that the mobile devices we carry enable a seamless digital communication - tools to push promotions and notifications while we walk the street or store aisles. To do so, retailers must know where you are and geofencing is not enough anymore. Beacons come to the rescue and mobile OSes - both Apple and Google - now build into their APIs very good location services which allow mobile app developers ways to connect with users in a very personal way. Using GPS location is not sufficient, especially indoors, so beacons are a must and reports such as this one show that our physical world has become a forest of digital beacons to track our every moves. We all thought this technology was dead after the initial failure of the 2013 Apple announcement. However, all retailers should now include geolocation and proximity tracking in their digital strategies and mid-term roadmaps, as it has apparently moved from the lab to the real world.

New Study Identifies Keys to Success on Amazon for Retailers

New Study Identifies Keys to Success on Amazon for Retailers | Future of Retail | Scoop.it

One of the most important questions for retailers on platforms with high amounts of competition is: "What makes shoppers choose one vendor over another?" There are, of course, obvious considerations like price. But on sites like Amazon or eBay, there are often many retailers with similar prices.

Feedvisor recently a study which identifies factors consumers use to determine which Amazon seller they will use buy from.

According to Feedvisor's new Amazon User Study 2016, ratings are they key. From product rating to seller ratings, these scores play a huge role in determining which sellers consumers trust. The study found that nearly nine out of 10 (87 percent) shoppers on Amazon 'always/sometimes' check seller ratings before buying.

The rating of the product is even more important. With so many sellers with poorly made or knock-off merchandise on the web, it's important for consumers to feel secure that the items they buy will meet their expectations. According to the study, also found that most (92 percent) won't make a purchase for a product with fewer than 3 stars....

I've not 'scooped' much about supermarkets recently, so let's right that particular wrong. This Telegraph article suggests that momentum in the sector is shifting back to established retailers, with a slight move away from the discounters, such as Aldi and Lidl.

However, this shouldn't be surprising - surely, income elasticity data would suggest that this would happen as we move out of recession?

Survey: 30% of Prime members order from Amazon every week | Future of Retail | Scoop.it
Amazon Prime members are wrapped around the e-commerce giant’s proverbial finger. New data from Feedvisor, an e-commerce platform that works with Amazon’s third-party sellers, shines a light on how committed Prime members are to online shopping — mainly on Amazon.com, but also on other e-commerce sites.

Feedvisor surveyed more than 1,500 US-based Amazon shoppers this past summer — about half of whom identified as Prime members — for its Amazon User Study 2016.

I selected this article from Curatti written by Raymond Morin because it provides predictures on consumer behavior in the next two years.

The influence of buyers has dramatically changed and will continue to evolve.

Understand The 'Generaction C' Consummer

Customers are more connected online than ever before. I agree that in order to grab their attention you need find out what they are looking for in a brand.

Morin shows the latest changes in consummer behavior and how to best meet their needs and desires.

Here's what caught my attention:

  • The trust meter has gone down over the last few years. Today people rely on review and recomendations -- especially from family and friends.

  • Content that is spread through social media has become the main source of information. These outlets are priority over traditional media.

  • With mobile platforms like Snapchat and Instagram consummers now want instant information. This has also created an emergence of niche bloggers to meet the demand.

70% of consumers will leave a review for a business when asked

70% of consumers will leave a review for a business when asked | Future of Retail | Scoop.it

A business’s online reputation is more important than ever. In fact, a company’s online reputation is fast becoming one of their most valuable assets — if managed properly.

Why? In a world where online reviews show up virtually every time a person searches for a local business, potential customers can’t help but be confronted with reviews about a local business’s products or services — the good, the bad and (sometimes) the downright ugly.
