The analyst believes that Google’s top line numbers for calendar year 2015 (CY15) will beat the 11% year-over-year (YoY) growth rate forecast issued by the Street. Mr. Shokshi goes on to make his case by pointing out Google is about to increase its operating system (OS) market share in all three markets, i.e. computers, tablets, and smartphones, by 118%, 20%, and 3%, respectively.  The analyst also shares the anecdotes given by CEOs at the Global Technology Distribution Council (GTDC) held on May 7. Of those execs, one CEO pointed out that Google’s chromebooks are growing at the expense of the iPad.  The analyst believes that the Internet of Things could happen to be a threat to Apple in the long run. Maxim Group initiated its recommendation on Apple last month with a Hold rating and $144 price target. Mr. Chokshi is of the opinion that the most feasible route to monetize the IoT is through the synthesis of data streams instead of selling items at a premium pricing strategy, like Apple currently does.  The analyst said that both Facebook and Google have “advanced machine-learning technology algorithms, rich troves of personal-profile data, and more efficient data centers than what Apple has built.” On this basis, his stance is that Facebook and Google are in a better position to synthesize the existing data streams, than Apple

What Can We Glean from Declining Tablet Sales?

What Can We Glean from Declining Tablet Sales? | Future of Cloud Computing | Scoop.it

Via AKQA
more...
AKQA's curator insight, April 30, 11:47 AM

Why it matters:

  • Worldwide tablet shipments fell year-over-year for the second consecutive quarter in the first quarter of 2015.
  • iPad sales have dropped 21% from this time a year ago, which many feel is related to the success the iPhone 6+ has seen.
  • One bright spot, cellular-enabled tablets are outgrowing the rest of the market, providing an additional revenue stream for OEMs and mobile operators.

Implication for Verizon:

  • Evidenced by trends in tablet sales, the 'mobility' of devices helps consumers to see their value. Cellular-enabled tablets help position the segment as true mobile solutions rather than stay-at-home devices.
