In a nutshell, IoT will do exactly what technology does everywhere — it supplants low-skill jobs with high-skill jobs. Eventually, the Internet of Things will lead to widespread replacement of simple and repetitive jobs in areas such as manufacturing, administration, quality control and planning. But more importantly, IoT will lead to the creation of new jobs that will help organizations champion and pioneer not only their personal success with IoT, but the success of the business as well.

5 technologies to avoid in the classroom-and what to use instead - eCampus News

5 technologies to avoid in the classroom-and what to use instead - eCampus News | Future of Cloud Computing, IoT and Software Market | Scoop.it

The most popular article on eCampus News is a surprising one to the editors: “6 apps that block social media distractions.” This story, which seemed  a bit counter-intuitive for us to write (being a tech-cheerleading publication in nature), has held the top spot by a massive margin for almost three years now; which had the editors considering the question, “Are there technologies that should simply be avoided in the college classroom?”

Movie Clip of One Technology Exasperation:

Of course, the editors then had to ponder what would make a technology easier to avoid than try to implement, and came up with a list of broad technologies and technology trends that either A) caused, rather than eased, more problems and concerns in the classroom, and/or B) were not evolved enough to make an actual difference in teaching or learning.

And, not wanting to simply talk technology trash without offering some useful information, the editors then came up with the technology options that may be better suited for the intended classroom task.

See any technologies you believe should be avoided that didn’t make the list? Be sure to leave your comments in the section below.

AI for Marketing on the Hype Cycle: A Long Journey to the Plateau? - Gartner

AI for Marketing on the Hype Cycle: A Long Journey to the Plateau? - Gartner | Future of Cloud Computing, IoT and Software Market | Scoop.it
Proponents of faster impact point out that AI has already been through a Trough of Disillusionment maybe ten times as long as the Internet – the “AI Winter” that you can trace to the 1980s. By this reckoning, productivity is long overdue. This may be true for a number of domains – such as natural language processing and image recognition – but it’s hardly the case for the kinds of applications we’re considering in AI for Marketing. Before we could start on those we needed massive data collection on the input side, a cloud-based big data machine learning infrastructure, and real-time operations on the output side to accelerate the learning process to the point where we could start to frame the optimization problem in AI. Some of the algorithms may be quite old, but their real-time marketing context is certainly new.

More importantly, consider the implications of replacing the way marketing works today with true lights-out AI-driven operations. Even when machines do outperform human counterparts in making the kinds of judgments marketers pride themselves on, the organizational and cultural resistance they will face from the enterprise is profound….with important exceptions: disruptive start-ups and the digital giants who are developing these technologies and currently dominate digital media.

IoT converges industries and specializations, uniting IT (Information Technology) and OT  (Operational  Technology) and contributing to industrial transformation  (Industry 4.0) and a wave of use cases which are either cross-industry or typical to a specific sector. As of June 2017 the main areas of IoT investments (industries and use cases) include manufacturing operations, transportation, smart grid technologies, smart buildings and, increasingly consumer IoT and smart home technologies.  Just like connected cars, smart buildings are typical cross-industry use cases and can include many areas, depending on type/goal/scenario, such as building management, light and room control, HVAC, energy efficiency and monitoring (from low voltage to critical power environments), asset management of key building assets, factory building management, the list goes on as we’ll tackle further. - Awesome Read if you're doing an IoT project

"Most people already know how Kodak was way too slow to recognise the camera market’s rapid switch to digital. Losing ground on camera sales certainly hastened the end but it was the collapse of film and processing that did it in."
