Is this the social media backlash?

Is this the social media backlash? | FUTURE MARKETING | Scoop.it
We ask is social media marketing “Mostly a waste of time”?
Are some marketers so obsessed by social media that they are not investing enough budget and attention on traditional advertising and marketing?
FRANK FEATHER ~ Business Futurist's insight:

There is too much bias toward old media in this commentary. It is defensive and resistant of obvious change. Most agencies are simply unable to let go of the past to embrace the future. And when they do, they assume too much and make many mistakes.

Why Content Marketing is (but Shouldn't be) Failing

Why Content Marketing is (but Shouldn't be) Failing | FUTURE MARKETING | Scoop.it
“Content Is King,” is the phrase we’ve heard everywhere for the last five to seven years. (Though the dictum is 18 years old, first coined by Bill Gates back in 1996.) But if content is king, w…
FRANK FEATHER ~ Business Futurist's insight:

Many content marketing efforts are mediocre or outright failures because most marketers are stuck in the past. They still fail to grasp that we have moved from "product push" to "content pull". Companies and brands that "get it" will prosper; those which don't will continue to fail, and many will go out of business.

WAY OFF TARGET: Target is pulling out of Canada after Deeply-Flawed Failed Expansion

WAY OFF TARGET: Target is pulling out of Canada after Deeply-Flawed Failed Expansion | FUTURE MARKETING | Scoop.it
Target has announced plans to discontinue Canadian operations. "Personally, this was a very difficult decision, but it was the right decision for our company," Brian Cornell, Target Corporation Chairman and CEO said in a statement.
FRANK FEATHER ~ Business Futurist's insight:

Target's entry into Canada was a case study in how NOT to enter the Canadian retail market. It was an arrogant approach based on the premise that Canadians who liked to shop at Target when in the USA would simply shop in Canadian stores. Target blindly bought more than 100 stores from another defunct retailer, regardless of the location of those stores, and regardless of the fact that Target would need perhaps no more than 10 stores to begin with, and in more strategic locations. Then they stocked and under-stocked those stores with the wrong mix of merchandise. It was not the shopping experience that its Canadian customers expected. In essence, Target bungled it, in every respect. Now, by pulling out completely, they have bungled it again. If they try to re-enter they need to better understand the Canadian market, and to enter slowly with a handful of superb stores in unique locations. Personally, I offered to become CEO of Target Canada and to turn the company around here. I did not even receive the courtesy of a reply. Target obviously thinks it knows it all when in fact it knows little to nothing about the Canadian retail market. Sad. Another brick-and-mortar monster that fails to understand how its market is changing, and so it literally ran into a brick wall of its own making. Way off target.
