Paul Hawken has his own way with strong polarities in the environmental arena.

The data he comes up with through his extensive experience and research into facts and causes on environmental and societal issues is deeply shocking, disturbing, overwhelming. There is no denial or extenuation. He is looking right into the abyss and he has studied it thoroughly from all angles. Hawken takes the facts, connects the dots and to provides vital perspectives that help to reframe the context(s). With his vast unconventional body of wisdom, he helps re-enriching the global dialogue on climate change that somehow got reduced and flattened to a few polarized and often misinterpreted points.

In his talks he puts together facts and trajectories from; history, food, economy, energy, commerce, culture, science, and technology in order to re-install climate change and the state of the environment as the civilization issue that it really is. Funny thing, and so precious for anybody having to deal with pending global issues: after listening to all the dire facts he is able to lead the listener towards a different, inspiring sphere of influence. More subtle, powerful, touching on post-dialectic thinking. New openings. If you allow yourself to follow his lead and listen, you will be positively surprised and uplifted.

Paul Hawken comes to Oslo for a public lecture at Oslo University next Wednesday, 17:00 on reframing contexts on climate change - “The Reimagination of Carbon”. Free entry, limited seats. Do not miss it.

The Edge Of Knowing- Committment to the discipline of creative vulnerability

The Edge Of Knowing- Committment to the discipline of creative vulnerability | Futurable Planet: Answers from a Shifted Paradigm. | Scoop.it

It is relatively easy to be confident about who we already are, to be articulate about insights we already have. And when we want so much to be valued, it is natural to try to appease our evaluators with expressions of clarity and assertiveness. But new consciousness begins in diffuseness, and takes shape only gradually – in soft, tentative, but somehow purposeful forms. So if we value full consciousness most of all – if it is deep spiritual wisdom that we seek – we must learn to wait expectantly at the edge of our knowing and welcome the squinting and the sometimes fumbling form-giving that happen there.

What if things would never be the same again …

What if things would never be the same again … | Futurable Planet: Answers from a Shifted Paradigm. | Scoop.it

You have two options. You can hang on to yesterday – a yesterday that may never be again. Or you can look forward to living life differently – shedding yourselves of the same, the convenient, the comfortable – and replacing it with the unpredictable, the inconvenient and the exciting. Rather than fearing the inevitable change, what if you embraced it? What if you built your life and raised your children to expect the unexpected?

CoCreatr: science of complex systems | Futurable Planet: Answers from a Shifted Paradigm. | Scoop.it

The science of complex systems is transforming science and its role in society. Building on the traditional focus on the parts of systems, the new approach integrates the networks of relationships within and between systems. These relationships are responsible for the collective "emergent" behaviors we see in all physical, biological, socio-economic and technological systems.

The Courage to Change

The Courage to Change | Futurable Planet: Answers from a Shifted Paradigm. | Scoop.it

The Courage to Change
"It is one thing to look objectively at change or to study it at a distance, in an attempt to both understand and shape it. Yet it is another thing to look at how we ourselves approach change – i.e. do we embrace change, or do we resist it? Is it exciting, or is it frightening? While the blind spots and limitations of others are often directly visible to us, it is less commonto look at our own assumptions and beliefs, our areas of discomfort and anxiety, and our fears, including the shadows that cover emotions that we would prefer to hide. This can make one feel quite vulnerable, and most people will find good reasons, consciously or unconsciously, to avoid this at all costs.” From “The Courage to Change: Adaptation from the Inside-Out” by Karen O’Brien – coming soon in Moser and Boykoff’s new book, “Successful Adaptation to Climate Change: Linking Science to Policy in a Rapidly Changing World”.http://www.routledge.com/books/details/9780415525008/   ;

How Social Movements Happen, Part I: Zenith, Ossification, Reality Shock, Emergence - EMERGENT CITIES

How Social Movements Happen, Part I: Zenith, Ossification, Reality Shock, Emergence - EMERGENT CITIES | Futurable Planet: Answers from a Shifted Paradigm. | Scoop.it

"The new reality is first sensed by those few people in the system who interface with the outside world, but is essentially invisible to the people on the inside. The difficulty here is that the new reality threatens the order of the whole edifice - there is no sustainable adaptation that doesn't involve giving up key fundamental assumptions of the culture. Because reality does not negotiate, the system faces a transformative challenge.

What happens then? In a perfect world, everyone would immediately change their minds and reorganize to face the challenge. In actuality, most of the members enter a stage of reality denial where their mind filters out inconvenient truths. To a lucid observer, it's only a matter of time before the system collapses - it’s a walking dead. But to insiders, everything's peachy, thank you. Thus no significant rearrangement can be made."

The ‘possible human’ must emerge if we are to survive our planetary odyssey and come home to the world waiting in the sanctuary of the soul.

What the world so desperately needs at this time is patterns for peaceful, passionately creative and effective societies, and with those patterns, peaceful, passionately creative and effective people—in other words, the possible human in the possible society. The growth of consciousness is the paramount key to the necessary transition to a world that works for everyone, most particularly for the planet.
